Not bad at all,
This review is from: Dangerous Ground (DVD)
I'm going to be quite candid with this review. What I liked most about this film is that it wasn't too political, or preachy, and it was a movie set in Africa that thankfully remained in civilization and didn't dwell on stereotypical jungles and bushmen. This movie was all about action and fun and didn't try to sit on a soapbox about South Africa's troubles like some of the disappointed viewers of this movie wanted it to do. Ice Cube always plays himself in his movies, but it worked for "Dangerous Ground". And Hurley was a good sport in this one while playing Ice Cube's "Bond Girl". "Dangerous Ground" is not a memorable film (You can see by the fact that only four people have bothered to review it so far). But its a breath of fresh air when all of the other movies involving Africa features nothing but overdone plots involving bigotry, proverty, or jungles. I give mad props to the filmmakers for this.

This review is from: Dangerous Ground [VHS] (VHS Tape)
this film is a bad joke.who can act in this film? Ice Cube is himself.nothing new here.Elizabeth Hurley is very bland.also due to Hollywoods Racial hangups what happen to the sparks between Cube&Hurley? not a very believable film in any way.one of those 3:am films at best.

DANGEROUS GROUND Review!,
By Crazy Jim (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dangerous Ground (DVD)
Ice Cube is a South-African exile who returns home after several years to bury his father. When he gets there, he finds one of his brothers fed up with the struggle of the ongoing revolution while the other is missing. After some convincing, he decides to search the streets of Johansburg for his lost brother. Along the way he comes across carjackers, racists, and his brother's crack-addict stripper girlfriend. He is eventually confronted by a psychotic drug boss who demands that he pay his brother's debt or bury him. This leads to a bullet-filled final act with Cube taking out everyone in sight. Neither excellent nor terrible, "Dangerous Ground" is about as big a mixed bag as it gets. Cube gives a solid performance, Hurley is really easy on the eyes, and the story shows heart but never remains consistent. There are a handful of entertaining moments and small attempts to display a social concience but the film never really realizes its full potentiol. Most of the key dramatic sequences aren't played up enough and the action elements are equally underplayed.

Hurley Is Hot,

Hurley is HOT in this movie. Was expecting an Apartheid movie,
but the plot is more about drug abuse and could have used Europe, USA, or Argentina and worked just as well. Drugs, gangs, carjackings, shootouts, and sexy Elizabeth Hurley. I've watched this movie a dozen times and never get tired of it.

Reluctant to rate,

With much reluctance I give a poor rating to this movie. Granted the review comes more than 10 years after the movie was made, however I have only just seen this movie.
As an African it is a disappointment that a movie of this nature is made by African Americans (Ice Cube, Ving Raimes) about Africa. It betrays plenty of ignorance about the continent while promoting popular misconceptions about the people. For instance, the movie is full of four letter words and expletives - "f**k", "s**t", "motherf**r", "a**hole", etc. There are plenty of problems in Africa, as it is every where else, but this is not one of them. The people simply do not speak the same way as they do in San Francisco inner city. Neither is the gang and drug culture the same. Drug use is not a prevalent problem as depicted in the movie, although some countries may serve as a transit point in the drug trafficking trade. Gangster gun violence, vice, shooting and death are prevalent in the movie. Addict drug lords snorting cocaine and shooting each other to a game of soccer. Art does not have to immitate life, but the problem with this movie is that it gives a wrong impression of life on the continent. It is simply not the same as in South-side Chicago. The movie ended with Ice Cube settling in South Africa after revenging his brother's murder. Mr. Ice Cube and co. may have been better served if they had hired a consultant who actually comes from and lives on the continent.

Besides Friday, This Is Cube's Greatest Movie,

This film is really cool, but at the same time really smart as well.Ice Cube plays an American who was born in South Africa but had to refuge at a young age, and in America he has always considered himself a South African but when he returns to his birthplace he does not feel at home and everybody considers him to be an American.... (I could go on but I don't wanna give the story away) He gets into trouble with Organised Crime who claims that Ice Cube's brothers ows them money, the leader is played excellent by VING RHAMES. All actors does great work at making this a good film, which it also turns out to be. If you liked DEAD PRESIDENTS or that type of movie u will probably enjoyu this as well.

Ok from a man who lived in Africa.,

First of all this movie reminds me of the time when I was in South Africa. It is similar in a way but it would have been more intresting and better if the actors and actresses were speaking Afrikans, Zulu, Xhosa in most part of the movie. They should of also had actors or so called actors acting as Boeras. Then it would of got a five star rating from me. Only one song in Zulu what was the director thinking?

YOUR AVERAGE ACTION MOVIE,
By MICHAEL TAYLOR "SNAKEFIST2" (RICHMOND, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dangerous Ground (DVD)
A YOUNG SOUTH AFRICAN [ICE CUBE] WHO IMMIGRATED TO AMERICA YEARS AGO, RETURNS TO SOUTH AFRICA TO BURY HIS FATHER. WHILE HE'S THERE, HE FINDS OUT THAT HIS DRUG ADDICTED BROTHER IS IN BIG TROUBLE WITH AN ORGANIZED CRIME SYNDICATE, WHICH ALSO SPELLS TROUBLE FOR HIM. OF COURSE, VING RHAMES IS INTRIGIUING AS THE VILLAIN, BUT EVERYONE ELSE ACTS PRETTY LAZY IN THIS MOVIE. HAS SOME GOOD ACTION SEQUENCES. I GUESS IT'S WORTH A WATCH. BUT, YOU MIGHT NEED TO RENT THIS BEFORE YOU THINK ABOUT BUYING IT.

I just finished watching this movie, and I thought it was great. Good plot and characters, with a satisfying ending. The short and simple facts for this movie are, as long as you are not a person who needs constant action in a movie, you'll find it entertaining and worth your time.
