The story takes place in 1978. That put me off for only a very short while because the story was so exciting.

CJ Perkins, a resilient young woman, who doesn't know how special she is, goes to Hong Kong to find her missing brother. (The brother is not likable, in the least, but CJ's sisterly affection was believable.) She meets the handsome Darius Kane and the adventure begins.

Hong Kong and the Asian jungle were so very well described! It was easy not only to see the locales, but to hear the sounds. The author, Joanne Pence, was quite good at not only the settings, but in the characterizations as well. Her characters were well crafted and the plot was believable.

The story was exciting, over the top enough to be thrilling, but not entirely unlikely. Dangerous Journey has been described as like Romancing the Stone. It is, but it's also an entirely different story which I found to be thoroughly enjoyable.

I received a free copy of this fun novel in exchange for my honest review.

C.J's search for a missing brother got her entangled with a handsome stranger with a murky past. He was drawn into her search, and she had to make up her mind if she could trust him. The attraction between them was mutual, however the quest had a different allure for each of them, and the differences threatened the feelings they had for each other.

Dangerous Journey reminds one of relationships that grow through difficulties. The adventure and suspense team up to make it an exciting tale. A definite read for lovers of romance.

This book reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Romancing the Stone. It has just the right balance of love and adventure. Sparks fly when a headstrong, mid-western artist named C.J. meets the mysterious and handsome Darius Kane. C.J. is smart, full of common sense, yet somewhat naive. She's also honest and plain-spoken, so she assumes everybody else is the same way, but a lesson to the contrary waits ahead.

When her brother is reported missing overseas, she begins a quest to find him, which puts her on the trail of the elusive and priceless White Dragon. It's one adventure after another. Out of her element, C.J. is never sure who to trust. Forced to deal with shady underworld types, her honest and loyal nature threaten to be her undoing. Good thing worldly Darius is there to help her navigate the streets and jungles of Asia, but is it out of genuine concern, or is he just using her to get the White Dragon for himself?

The prose are clean and flow really well. This is clearly the work of an experienced author. Some romances are trashy, this one is classy, and a wonderful roller coaster of a ride.

When C.J., an innocent young woman, sets out to find her brother, who appears to be lost somewhere in Asia, she encounters crooked cops, dastardly crooks and other folks who aren't what they pretend to be. I found some of the circumstances in the adventure a bit far-fetched, but excellent writing and likable characters (okay, the brother is NOT likable!) kept me hooked. As she overcomes her obstacles, C.J. is helped by a man she's not sure she can trust, and she gradually loses much of her naivete. Hong Kong in 1978 came alive for me. A good read with lots of twists and setbacks to the romance and the rescue.

In Joanne Pence's novel, Dangerous Journey, C.J. Perkins, a twenty-eight year old Midwestern gal living in Los Angeles, who doesn't think she is particularly attractive, plunges headfirst into the disappearance of her brother, Alan, a Peace Core volunteer in Sarawak, a province of Malaysia. Her quest lands her in Hong Kong, a British Crown Colony in 1978, where she shanghaies a handsome adventurer with a tragic past to help her, one Darius Kane. C.J. learns her brother's whereabouts are tied up with the theft of the White Dragon, a small statue carved during the Chinese T'ang dynasty, a white jade masterpiece presented as a gift to the emperor of China and on loan to Western museums when stolen. C.J. and Darius, who C.J. is more than a little attracted to, bounce from Hong Kong to San Francisco, to Singapore, to Sarawak, and back again. On this dangerous journey they learn about each other's pasts and share intimate moments as they uncover clues to Alan's dilemma and to the mystery of the White Dragon. This whirlwind of a novel locks the reader in, not only to the USA-Asian adventure ride, but also to a heart-felt man-woman relationship startling in its complexity

The tight writing style pushed the story forward. Some romance and thrills set, mostly, in Asia. Some of the characters were too transparent. Still, a quick and entertaining uncomplicated plot. Excellent for a rainy weekend.

Exciting! Danger ahead! Book is written in such a way that the story is difficult to put down for any reason. Got irritated with C.J.'s innocence, and blundering about, but it also endured her to you. I also loved the way Darius playfully mocked & teased her. The only thing that eased having the book end, was in knowing another book in the series was waiting for me to read it!

Very engaging. The plot has the depth of intrigue to make a believable adventure and the settings are hauntingly realistic of the roads and jungles East.

OMG! Joanne did it again! This is another fantastic book she has written. I was not disappointed with it. This is my forth book of hers that I have read. All four are on my "read again" list. I loved both C.J. and Darius. They each had their own personal problems. The romance developing between them occurs through out the adventure they went on looking for C.J.'s brother and the stolen white jade dragon. I love this book. I love the way Joanne writes. She has become one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to read another of her books. I HIGHLY recommend this book! I don't think you would be disappointed in it.
