Book Description

Silhouette Intimate Moments December 1, 2006
No sooner had Selene Brand cast her love spell than dark, handsome—and freshly stabbed—Cory Forrester fell at her feet. She felt as destined to save this stranger as she was to love him, even if it meant exposing her secret life as a witch. But the injured amnesiac didn't even know his own name, whether Selene was the cause of his injured state—or his salvation. Cory knew only that his attraction to Selene was as unworldly as her unusual pagan rituals…and that with killers now after both of them, they might be dead before nightfall...

More About the Author

New York Times Bestselling author Maggie Shayne has published 53 novels, all for major NY Publishers, in her 18 year career. So far. In 2012 she'll be releasing a brand new trilogy dubbed "The Portal" and its books will include MARK OF THE WITCH in October 2012, DAUGHTER OF THE SPELL CASTER in December 2012, and BLOOD OF THE SORCERESS in February 2013, all for MIRA Books.

Maggie has published westerns, category romances, romantic suspense, paranormal romances, urban fantasy, women's fiction, and just about everything in between, and is currently working on her first thriller. She's a winner of the RITA Award, the romance fiction industry's most prestigious prize, and has won countless others.

Maggie's "Twilight" series of vampire novels, officially known as Wings in the Night, began in 1993 with a TWILIGHT PHANTASIES from Silhouette Shadows. The series only just concluded with TWILIGHT FULFILLED in October 2011. (Printable list and reading order at the author's website and on her Facebook page.)

Besides being an author, Maggie is a Wiccan High Priestess, Reiki healer, Tarot Card Reader, unofficial Life Coach, Law of Attraction expert, advice columnist, and a licensed minister. Her long running newspaper advice column has just now been compiled into book form; SHAYNE ON YOU, the author's first non-fiction book.

Recently, Maggie has begun re-releasing her out of print novels in ebook format. So far these include FAIRYTALE, FOREVER ENCHANTED and ANNIE'S HERO, fantasy-romances she wrote for Avon Books (Harper Collins) in the early 1990's, and a novella WITCH MOON RISING, originally published by Spilled Candy Books.

There will be much more to come.

Of course Maggie's publishers also release E-versions of her works, and it's difficult for the average reader to tell whether an ebook is released by a publisher, or the author herself. Especially books that were previously published by a NY Publishing House. Just look for the "Publisher" listing in the book's information and you'll see what's what. The prices are usually a little bit lower on the books Maggie releases herself.

Maggie lives with her soulmate Lance in a tiny town called Taylor (phone exchange: Truxton, mailing address: Cincinnatus, tax map: Cuyler. Smalltown folks understand!) in New York State's little known but sprawling and gorgeous dairy farm & wine country near the Fingerlakes region. Together they have a pair of Old English Mastiffs (Dozer & Daisy,) a chubby little bulldog (Niblet), an arrogant cat (Glorificus,) a saltwater reef aquarium with two clown fish (Larry & Cill) and two damsels (Vinnie & Blue,) a bearded dragon (Captain Yellow Beard) and a life of utter contentment and joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful romantic suspense...., December 13, 2006
This review is from: Dangerous Lover (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Mass Market Paperback)
Selene Brand hadn't planned to tell her family she was a witch this way! But after discovering the injured man who fell at her feet, she knew it was more important to get him help than to keep her identity as a witch a secret. Unfortunately, Corey has amnesia and all he remembers is Selene standing over him with her athame. Corey's attempted killers haven't given up, though, and Corey and Selene find themselves on the run while sorting out their attraction to one another.

DANGEROUS LOVER continues Maggie Shayne's spectacular series, The Oklahoma All-Girl Brands. Selene's story is one this reviewer has greatly anticipated and Ms. Shayne did not disappoint! Selene's unwavering faith in her belief system against her mother's horror and Corey's disbelief demonstrates the strength that is the core of each of the Brand characters. Maggie Shayne has a strong sense of her own spirituality and she incorporates some of those beliefs into DANGEROUS LOVER through Selene. This is not a preachy novel, however, but one of acceptance and tolerance. DANGEROUS LOVER has a powerful impact with the depth of emotions conveyed and the overall message is thought provoking.

DANGEROUS LOVER is not the sort of book you want to end. Maggie Shayne's splendid pacing of the action interspersed with just the right amount of romance makes this an absolute winner and perhaps one of this reviewer's favorites in The Oklahoma All-Girl Brands series. Maggie Shayne is arguably one of the best authors out there today and DANGEROUS LOVER certainly proves this point! Now if only we can read Casey's story....

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of Shayne's Best, May 23, 2011

*** NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS ***

Maggie Shayne has certainly written better than this quick read. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice fast paced novel with lots of excitement. However I found the main character a little hard to relate to. There's being Wiccan or an interest in the occults and then there's just plain flaky and I'd have to say Selene Brand falls into the second category. She decides a man she doesn't even know is her soul mate based on signs she receives after a pagan ritual, falls madly in love with him for no other apparent reason other than those signs and takes wacky to a whole new level. In one scene this character decides to literally listen to the earth, as in lie down on the ground and put her ear to it, and of course while she's listening to dirt "talk" the bad guy catches her and takes her hostage. The character does have some redeeming qualities like a strong sense of conviction to her beliefs and an extreme sense of loyalty, but I was disappointed in the book because you usually find so much better with a Maggie Shayne novel. It's an entertaining read, but I think could have been greatly improved with a little more character development and plot depth. Definitely not one of Maggie Shayne's best.

All the characters in Maggie Shayne's "Oklahoma Brands"
series are lovable. Selene was the different one and
the book was written very well. I loved it!
