Book Description

A Dangerous Man, a sequel to Legacy of a Spy, was written in the early sixties, the height of the Cold War. I am dedicating it to a those Contract Agents who accept the risks and perform much of the dirty work done in our behalf.
Many of them – men and women – operate in the belief that Intelligence is our first line of defense. They operate without diplomatic immunity, are never officially recognized, and as Slater said ‘the pay wasn’t too good either’.
They are expendable.

Over the years, in 19 different editions, and foreign languages, Legacy of a Spy, has sold more than a million copies. The film Double Man, undoubtedly added more readers. It seems likely there are many readers who would like to know what happened to William Slater.

As a former member of the CIA I still have several unanswered questions: Its Mission, Effects on the agents, and the effects on our society.

I am first and foremost a storyteller. There is a convincing plot, a love interest, compelling characters and a mature look at the sort of things our country is doing.

What are the effects of living in fear without an opportunity to lead a normal social life, forced to make on the spot decisions that are anathema to fundamentally decent people?

What follows is Slater’s story – unchanged from the original.
