Uniting theme of dangerous works well...,
By
This review is from: Dangerous (Paperback)
This book contains three of Nora Roberts earlier novels, Risky Business, Storm Warning, and The Welcoming. This book is a REPRINT of the three novels, so be warned if you already own them. The uniting theme is danger, because each of these books contain some sort of mystery, in which there is some sort of danger.Risky Business isn't one of my favorites of the three, but it isn't bad of course. What Nora Roberts romance is? This story is about Liz Palmer who owns Black Coral Dive Shop in Cozumel where she was raising her daughter alone because the childs father didn't want her. She hires a new diving instructor, Jerry Sharpe, but within two weeks of working for her, he turns up dead leading Liz to ask some questions. Jerry's twin brother Jonas shows up asking questions and making trouble for Liz. As each learn about what happened to Jerry, they fall in love, both having to reopen their hearts to the pain of love after failing the first time around. Good story for the most part, but I personally didn't care for Jonas. He seemed a little too detached for me. Storm Warning is the story of Autumn Gallegher and her aunt's inn where she goes to stay. There, she meets up with Lucas, the man she had fallen in love with three years earlier and who had broken her heart horribly. He still seems to care for Autumn, which confuses her a lot, and makes her feelings stronger than ever for him. Meanwhile, one of the guests staying at the inn turns up dead, and everyone is a suspect. Autumn, though she doesn't want to, believes that Lucas might have done it. In between solving the murder, Lucas and Autumn mend their relationship and fall back in love. Good story for the most part, but it wasn't anything super special. It really didn't stick out in my mind too much, though I did like Autumn. The Welcoming was my favorite of the three stories. Charity Ford runs a seaside inn, and one of her new guests is Roman DeWinter. He had come to her inn to expose a criminal organization that was based in her inn. He didn't expect that he would learn to care for Charity, and want something more with her. Charity was a great character, as was Roman. They both fell in love rapidly, and though Roman made a big mistake in not telling Charity the truth, the two were able to work it out for love. Both of these characters had strong convictions, and I thought the "mystery" in this book was the most interesting of the three. All in all, a pretty good selection of books for Nora Roberts fans. Though not some of her best works, I really don't think any fan will be too disappointed in the stories as they are still romantic and filled with love. The only problem is that some of the romance themes seem a little outdated for todays more modern times.

Terrific Anthology of Three Nora Roberts Classics!,
By Sophie (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dangerous (Paperback)
"Dangerous" by Nora Roberts is a Silhouette reprint of three 1980's stories, and it is wonderful! I have been utterly delighted all year by not only Nora's new works, but also her old reprinted works that up until now I haven't been able to find. I hope that Silhouette doesn't stop until ALL of Nora's old works are back in print, because I will buy every one. The theme of this book, danger, works beautifully in tying these three tales together. Each story is unique, exciting, and romantic, and there isn't one I didn't like. "Risky Business" introduces Liz Palmer, who owns a dive shop on the idyllic island of Cozumel in the Mexican Caribbean. When her new employee, Jerry Sharpe, doesn't show up for work one day, Liz soon discovers he had a pretty good reason for it - he's dead. And Jonas Sharpe, Jerry's twin brother, has come to Cozumel to find out who killed his brother and why. Immediately drawn to the lovely Liz, Jonas knows he needs to stay close to her if he's going to solve this mystery. Somebody thinks Liz knows more than she's saying, and Liz knows her life is in danger. So she agrees to work with Jonas to find Jerry's killer, hoping she can get her life back to normal in time for her 10-year-old daughter, Faith, to come home for the summer. But as Jonas and Liz work together, plunging themselves into a very dangerous situation, they fall in love. Their romance is nicely portrayed by Roberts, and readers will find themselves caught up in it. But Liz has been hurt terribly in the past by Faith's father, and her fear of reliving such unbearable pain may just cause her to give up the one man who can make her whole again! "Storm Warning" is by far the shortest story out of the three, but Roberts packs a whole lot of excitement and passion into it. Autumn Gallegher has come to her Aunt Tabby's lovely inn in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains for a relaxing family visit. But she never expected to come face to face with the man who brutally broke her heart three years earlier, acclaimed author Lucas McLean. After three years, Autumn's feelings for Lucas haven't changed, and it's impossible to deny the love that still burns brightly in her heart just for him. But all is not well at the Pine View Inn, and on the night of a particularly fierce storm, one of the guests is found murdered. The group staying at the inn is a mixed bunch, and everyone's a suspect. The stress of dealing with Lucas and his strange mood swings, as well as the murder, has Autumn on the edge. And when the evidence begins to indicate that Lucas may be guilty of the murder, Autumn doesn't know whether to believe it, or to trust in the man she loves. "The Welcoming" is the final story, and it is superb, my favourite of the lot. Roman DeWinter is an agent with the FBI, sent to Orcas Island in the San Juans for what appears to be a routine assignment. A criminal organization has been running out of an island inn, and it's Roman's job to bring it down, along with whoever is working from the inside. The Bureau believes that the guilty party is the owner, Charity Ford. Charity hires Roman, who claims to be an out of work drifter, as her handyman, allowing the investigation to proceed smoothly. But Roman never counted on falling in love with Charity, and on her falling in love with him. Convinced that Charity couldn't possibly be a part of the criminal organization, Roman sets about finding a way to prove her innocence. Charity and Roman's romance is utterly engrossing, filled with love, tenderness, and red-hot passion. But Roman is constantly troubled by the thought of how he is deceiving Charity, and is terrified that she won't be able to forgive him when she finds out the truth. Will their love be enough to overcome any obstacle? Or will Roman's dishonesty destroy Charity's faith in him forever? The fact of the matter is, I have only good things to say about "Dangerous" and I can't recommend it more to other readers. Roberts always manages to transport me into the lives and hearts of her characters, making them seem so incredibly real that I wouldn't be surprised to meet them walking down the street. Silhouette did a marvellous job of choosing three stories that fit together brilliantly; linked by the common element of danger, but were different enough that each one was distinctive and totally original. This is a Nora Roberts anthology you don't want to miss, so buy it today!

This is yet another reprint of Nora Robert's early work. Unlike other reprints form this year (Going Home, Table fot Two, etc...) this collection has some suspense thrown in which may appeal to fans of her later stuff. The writing style is not as polished as the books she turns out these days but the stories are interesting, especially the last two. I never really got into Risky Business. I had to actually force myself to finish. The mystery never interested me,and I didn't see any chemistry between the two main characters. Still, even Nora on a bad day is better than much of the romance you find out there. I liked Storm Warning better. The two main characters had a history together. I think Nora Roberts is especially good at reuniting old lovers. Also, I liked the fact that this one seemed like an old fashioned who-done-it with a lot of romance mixed in. This was my favorite of the three.

good selection of reprints,

If you like reading Nora Roberts' stories and you like romantic suspense this book is for you. The three stories were written in the eighties and they remind you that Roberts has always been an exceptional writer. The stories were selected to fit the title- 'Dangerous' and in each story the main character is faced with a dangerous situation and a partner of the opposite sex to help solve their mystery. In 'Risky Business' Jonas Sharpe is looking for the person who murdered his twin brother. His only link to the murderer might be Liz Palmer, the dive shop owner and single mother for whom his brother was working at the time of his death. Autumn Gallagher arrives at her Aunts' Inn for a long awaited visit. She discovers that her ex lover, Lucas, who spurned her and broke her heart is staying at the inn with. After Autumn is attacked and one of the guests is murdered the remaining guests band together to solve the mystery. Autumn needs Lucas' help but she wonders why he is here. In 'The Welcoming' Charity Ford owns an inn that is suspiciously caught up in some illegal money laundering schemes. Roman DeWinter is an FBI agent sent to investigate. He quickly decides that Charity is not guilty and that he must protect her while he solves the mystery. But he cannot let her know who he really is and he might be falling in love. The stories are certainly formula plots, but they're well written and an enjoyable read for a dreary winter day.

Pretty rough for Nora,
By
This review is from: Dangerous (Paperback)
I am a huge Nora fan, but found this book to be a little bit rough. I would have loved the stories 8 years ago, but have been spoiled by the much more enlightened men that we have been getting in our romantic suspense. The males in these 3 stories are the type that are dark, brooding, and you have to prove your worthiness before they will trust you, and even then they will screw up and be majorly unforgiveable jerks, which us poor women should just get over. The women characters at least are not trajic virgins, they are self supporting stand on their own. I thought that this was great to read to see how much better Nora is now, but independently I think they are mediocre. I think my expectations for her are huge, I read everything she writes as soon as it is put out and have all of her books autographed. If you are new to Nora and like short romances I would start with perhaps the Mckade series, or Stanislaskis. If you like strong kick butt women with gorgeous take charge men, go for her In Death series, or my personal favorite - Private Scandals. Great works.!!

ok but not great,

nora roberts is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. she breathes so much life into some of her characters it seems impossible that they're not real. her plots are inventive, her prose beautiful and her characterization fantastic.that said, this collection does not come close to the brilliance she achieves in some of her books. the best is the welcoming and it's actually quite wonderful, with suspense, great characters and a wonderfully beautiful romance. risky business is decent, not great but still better than many romances you read. but storm warning ruined it for me. it was horrible! virtually all the romance takes place in the past; the male character is brutal and unkind until the very end when he suddenly turns around in a completely unrealistic plot device; even the mystery was dull. also, i hate it when a story is seen only from one characters point of view. autumn is the only one whose thoughts we hear and it makes the story extremely 2 dimensional. all and all, storm warning was the worst nora roberts i've ever read, though the welcoming makes up for it somewhat. the welcoming: *****

2 of the 3 stories were good,

I wasn't sure that I'd like "Risky Business" but I was pleasantly surprised. The adventure was interesting without being too involved, and the romance and relationship built very nicely. The same cannot be said of "Storm Warning". There was no romance in the story and the male protagonist was hateful. The story, beyond the love story (if you can call it that), was interesting. It reminded me a little bit of some of Agatha Christie's stories. "The Welcoming" is a very nice story about a man ready to learn to love and a loving, giving woman. Likable characters. This book isn't Roberts' best but the first and last stories are nice reads. If you can get passed the nasty male protagonist and the lack of romance in the second story, you might find the mystery interesting.

I gave this book two stars - one for Risky Business and one for The Welcoming - they are typical stories written by my favorite author. Predictable, yes, but enjoyable. Storm Warning made me mad. I wish I had not spent the time trying to figure it out, It made no sense! Do not buy this book. Go check it out at the library and read the first and last story, but skip Storm Warning!

I can't beleive I actually found something written by Nora that I did not like. The first story in this collection is excellent and is worth purchasing the book for. However, the second story is horrible and the male character is just a major creep. I almost didn't finish it. The third story is OK, and worth your time to read, just not her best. I LOVE Nora, but that second story just didn't cut it. If this is your first Nora book - PLEASE go get something else by her - anything - don't let this one turn you off to her. I feel guilty writing this!!! Sorry Nora!

I enjoyed the first story "Risky Business" in this collection. It was a good story and I really got into the characters. What a character Liz was!! She is such a strong character that risked everything to care for her child. It's so amazing to read. "The Welcoming" was also a good story. It's about Charity who owns and runs an inn on an island off Washington State. Roman is a agent set to check her out. It's about love, honor, family all rolled into one. I really liked this one a lot, especially the ending! WOW! I just wish it was a little longer in length because I didn't want it to end.
