4.0 out of 5 stars A Well-Rounded Read You Won't Want To Miss!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best
I'm a fan of Janet Chapman's but this book definitely wasn't her best effort. While the basic theme of the story was ok, there were several things about it that drove me crazy. Duncan's accent for one. I'm around enough Scotmen on a routine basis to know that none of them sound like a pirate as Duncan does (didn't someone say he sounded like Popeye?) And if Willow...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Well-Rounded Read You Won't Want To Miss!, April 24, 2005
This review is from: The Dangerous Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Chapman's latest effort is a well-rounded read that although not offering a new storyline, she has created characters that are fresh and enjoyable to read about.

Willow Foster has a lot of emotional baggage that she is carrying around. The one thing that she will go out of her way to avoid is Duncan Ross. Eighteen months earlier they had a...well, explosive night together. One night though is all she'll allow herself. She is afraid that she will loose herself if she becomes involved with him. Duncan rocked her world once and she is just not ready to walk that fine line again. That is until a new case brings her back into his sphere. Now Willow must realize that she can't change her destiny and that Duncan will not only be her anchor but her salvation as well.

Duncan and Willow were wonderful characters. Duncan is a Scotsman that knows who and what he wants...Willow. He is a true hero in every sense of the word. Willow is a complex character but eventually realizes that Duncan is the one for her. The suspense storyline surrounding the lobster contamination is entertaining without having to many slow moments. I enjoyed this read and highly recommend Ms. Chapman as an author. Her stories are always filled with fun and interesting characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Willow's story is exciting and Duncan is adorable., August 13, 2006

This review is from: The Dangerous Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the companion book to The Seductive Imposter and focues on sister Willow Foster. Willow uncovers an environmental danger to her beloved hometown and is almost killed trying to bring the criminals to justice. Of course Duncan, who decided long ago that he would marry Willow, is there to help. Duncan is so male and yet so adorable that is would be hard not to love this book. Duncan's secret life only adds to his charm. A must read.

I'm a fan of Janet Chapman's but this book definitely wasn't her best effort. While the basic theme of the story was ok, there were several things about it that drove me crazy. Duncan's accent for one. I'm around enough Scotmen on a routine basis to know that none of them sound like a pirate as Duncan does (didn't someone say he sounded like Popeye?) And if Willow called him "Dunky" one more time I was ready to throw the book out. It was even worse than the running troglydyte joke. And bringing in Duncan's family near the end just was a way to provide romantic interest for the few remaining single major characters in the book. Geez...doesn't Puffin Harbor have ANY permanently single people?

All in all it made me long for Michael MacBain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm-hearted romantic suspense, part 2 of a series, September 1, 2008
This review is from: The Dangerous Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
Willow Foster and Duncan Ross had one passionate night 18 months ago. But when Duncan made it clear that he wants more than a fling, Willow ended their relationship before it really began. She is afraid of love after several painful losses. But Duncan doesn't give up and his chance to win Willow finally comes when Rachel helps some local lobster fishers. There's some serious (and illegal) pollution near an island near Willow's hometown and her attempts to find the criminals soon become a threat to her life. Enter Duncan, who wants to protect the woman he loves and finally wants to make her realise that their love is worth taking risks...
As Janet Chapman's other novels, this book has warmth, humour, likeable characters, and the romance and suspense are both great. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It can be read on its own, but it's more fun to have read the first in the series, 'The seductive impostor' first.

This sequel to "The Seductive Imposter" is AWESOME!
As always, Miss. Chapman comes forth with another brilliant creation in The Dangerous Protector! Well done, another great escape from reality from this very talented author! Don't let the one bad review scare you away from this one, because if you do, you'll be missing out on a great treasure!

If you truly 'live' in the romance novel world, you have about 8 different authors that you live for their new novel. You see it on the shelf...Your palms start sweating....Your heartbeat starts racing......just standing in the aisle with that 'dazed' look on your face. You take it home and either tear through it or try to find as many ways to prolong it as you can....I have adored Janet Chapman.....I don't feel this novel was worthy of her name or talent. I didn't find one character in this novel that I wanted to live through, for or with.

I could spend all day telling you why this novel wasn't worth it....Do yourself a favor..Read her trilogy and save yourself the expense. Hopefully whatever was capturing Janets attention other than her writing was put behind her before she started her next one. HUGE dissapointment!

4.0 out of 5 stars intriguing but odd romantic suspense thriller, April 27, 2005
This review is from: The Dangerous Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
Eighteen months ago in Puffin Harbor, Maine Duncan Ross and Willow Foster shared a blissful night together. He thought it was the beginning of a lifetime as he believes he found his soulmate; she catalogues it as a delightful one night stand fearing how deep she feels for the Scot. Duncan has all the townsfolk including her mother believing that they will wed soon once he persuades her to accept his offer of matrimony, but Willow avoids even coming home acting like the elusive butterfly eluding his net of love.

However, as a Maine Assistant District Attorney Willow comes home when a lobster catch in the nearby waters proves contaminated. She, joined by Duncan, begins an investigation to determine what happened, who is responsible, and whether criminal charges should be filed. As they work the dangerous waters of corporate America seeking to identify the polluter, Willow realizes she loves her protector, but fears commitment.

Contemporary readers will find THE DANGEROUS PROTECTOR is an intriguing but odd romantic suspense thriller that seems to combine historical courting elements into a modern day investigative tale. The story line is at its best when the lead duet working in tandem make inquiries including searching the money and paper trails. When the plot turns romantic, it feels strange as if the time and place was eighteenth century Scotland and even an Internet romance feels old fashioned. Still Janet Chapman entertains her audience with this fine romantic mystery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Go Duncan!, June 8, 2011

Loved the book. The only thing I didnt care for was how it seemed like instead of leaving an opening for Jason and Luke to have their own book, she get them involved in relationships in this one. BOOOOO, I love a book with a whole series that follows. That pretty much killed that possibility. :( But I still love ya Janet!

I enjoy all of Janet Chapman books. I almost didn't buy this book because of some of the reviews. I thought it showed a lot of humor and mystery. I reread her books because they are so enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like lots of beefcake!, August 8, 2007
This review is from: The Dangerous Protector (Mass Market Paperback)
If you liked the beefcake line-up in The Seductive Imposter, get ready to meet all the guys again, yum. Duncan Ross, the gorgeous Scotsman who runs the local pub, has made his interest in Assistant Attorney General Willow Foster crystal clear. Ever since they went to bed together for one blazing night eighteen months previously, he's `making himself available', oh my. It's a long time to stay celibate and he's oh-SO-ready to break the drought. Willow herself gets caught up in some fishy business when local fishermen ask her to look into why lobsters are sickening around an island off the coast of Maine. Naturally certain villains get twitchy, and all sorts of things suddenly go shockingly wrong for Willow - her files get raided, she has a near fatal car accident which sets her up for a DUI charge, an astonishing amount of money lands in `her' overseas account from mysterious sources. Everything criminal points to her! Duncan (naturally) puts on his hero gear, and he and his drool-worthy buddies muscle in to help Willow. A great romantic suspense, with a climax that will blow you out of the water!
