Editorial Reviews

Review

On a desolate Texas trail with dreams of gold ahead of them, the Buchanan family's wagon faced a raging river. When their ordeal was over, one young girl was left an orphan. Honesty Buchanan lost her parents and sisters, Purity and Chastity that day. She was found by a saloon girl named Jewel LaRue and her driver Sam Potts, who took the homeless girl in. But the life Honesty leads is most likely not one her parents had in mind when they named her after a virtue. Honesty grew into a beautiful young woman able to cheat at cards and steal men's hearts with a twinkle in her eyes and a shrug of her shoulders. The Texas Jewel Saloon is Honesty's home and she hardly remembers those early years with her parents. Everybody loves the easy going Honesty, but few people know her secret heartache. Honesty longs to find the two sisters she lost, convinced through her dreams that they are alive. Wes Howell has come to Caldwell, Kansas to protect the large shipments of cash that will be coming to the bank from back east. He is captivated by the beautiful Honesty but he is wary of her friends and her lifestyle. Determined to do his job, Wes wars with his emotions when it comes to Honesty. Their games of teasing and flirting quickly turn to passion but their personal demons keep them apart. Honesty is the first book in Elaine Barbieri's Dangerous Virtues series. Honesty has an engaging plot, along with several subplots, as Ms. Barbieri gives us the teasing glimpses into the lives of her coming characters and their stories. Ms. Barbieri creates compelling, well rounded characters and it is nice to see secondary characters sharing the limelight. This reviewer would have liked to have seen more of this appealing couple! Honesty satisfies and leaves the reader craving the next tale of dangerous virtue.Elaine Barbieri charms! Her characters will steal your heart! A fast paced story that twists and winds its way to a dramatic conclusion! Captivating! Elaine Barbieri does a terrific job creating a fresh, exciting plot!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

THE STORY STARTED OUT REALLY GOOD BUT IT QUICKLY WENT TO BORING.AND WHEN THE BOOK ENDED I MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERS WAS PRETTY MUCH UNCHANGED FROM THE BEGINNING. WHAT A SHAME. THE HERO IN PARTICULARLY REMAINED A STRANGER WITH NOTHING TO RECOMMEND HIM AS THE HERO.....SORRY EB....OBVIOUSLY I'LL PROBABLY SKIP THE SEQUELS...

5.0 out of 5 stars Honesty by Elaine Barbieri, July 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Dangerous Virtues: Honesty (Paperback)
It was a very good book. You won't be able to put it down wondering if she will be all right & be able to find her sisters. It gets pretty complicated when Wes Howell shows up in town investigating the banker & on the trail of an outlaw gang. It gets really good & you don't know what's gonna happen from chapter to chapter, can't hardly put the book down it gets suspensful. If you get a chance to read this book, go for it & also Purity & Chastity, they're good to.
