3.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I'm hoping it won't be the last. I found it to be very well written with the characters well developed and a interesting plot.

This is a *commanding* first novel from a hot "new" author. Her vivid description of the time is beyond incredible, and the steamy romance is enough to keep my thoughts out of order for a week... I simply cannot wait until the sequel comes out next fall!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books now!, September 8, 2002

I can't wait for Marliss Moon's next book after reading this great first novel. I loved the characters and the story. It kept me interested from start to finish, and, of course, made me fall in love with Christian, too. He is attractive and sexy, and the book's cover does him credit! A very satisfying romance that I could not put down. I will definitely keep this book to read again and again.

I am a fan of medieval romance novels, but lately I haven't read any real good ones. Fortunately, Amazon recommended this book and I am glad I bought the book. A story has to grip your interest from the first page and this one really did. Loved the hero and heroine and the plot. Read it in one day. Marliss Moon has a flowing style and I am looking forward to her next book. Hopefully a medieval one again!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars - a really great hero!, December 19, 2002

This review is from: Danger's Promise (Seduction Romance) (Paperback)
I must say that I have been impressed with the Jove Seduction line of books that I've read so far. Marliss Moon is a new author to look out for (another is Kathleen O'Reilly).

Christian De La Croix AKA The Slayer is a feared warlord who needs a wet nurse for his newborn son. There are rampant, lurid rumours about his various violent misdeeds, the most recent being that he killed his wife in childbirth. The servants in his own household are terrified of him so finding a wet nurse will prove difficult.

But stranger Clare Crucis (whose real name is Clarise DuBoise) volunteers for the job. She has an ulterior motive - to get close to The Slayer in order to poison him or her evil stepfather will kill her mother and sisters. But after only days in The Slayer's company, Clarise decides that the rumours about him are greatly exaggerated, that there is more to this man than his reputation and that she cannot kill him. Though he has earned his reputation on the battlefield and is truly a man to be feared, Clarise sees in him a sadness, a longing and a kindness that she had not expected. The more she learns about the circumstances of his birth, his childhood and his years training to be a warrior, she is struck by the conflicting influences in his life. Clarise comes to care for Christian and his son Simon and now stuggles with how to save her mother and sisters. After all her lies, can she ask Christian to help her? And is there someone in Christian's household trying to kill Simon?

As Christian spends more time with Clarise, he begins to hope that she has been sent by God to help him change his life. To help him to recapture the good in him that his mother instilled, but that his father tried to destroy. He longs for a tender and fulfilling relationship with a woman instead of the cold, emptiness of his first marriage. But how to make himself worthy of her?

I really enjoyed this story and found Christian an endearing and sexy hero; Clarise a strong, independent, if impulsive heroine. A recommended read!

This review is from: Danger's Promise (Seduction Romance) (Paperback)
I just got done reading this book and it was really good. The story grabed you from the beginning and takes you on a ride. This being the first book from this author that I have read, I will look for more of her books. I get the feeling I wont be disapointed. Christian is truly one of the best hero's that I have read in a while. He was a good guy, I wouldnt mind one of him for myself. He pulls at your heartstrings. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Medival Romance I've read in a While, March 12, 2002
This review is from: Danger's Promise (Seduction Romance) (Paperback)
This was a great story that moved along fast. I liked all the characters and look forward to the author's next book. I noticed that "Romantic Times" gave this book only 3 stars. Boy, was that an under rating for this wonderful story!!

This is the first book I've read from this author and I'm hoping it won't be the last. I found it to be very well written with the characters well developed and a interesting plot.

The story centers around the Hero, the Slayer aka Christian. He is a very feared man because of his past deeds that have earned him the nickname. He needs someone to take care of his newborn son after his wife dies in childbirth. That someone is Clarise. She has to lie her way into Slayer's home because she has been sent to destroy Slayer. She has no desire to see his downfall but she has hidden reasons of her own. She soon finds herself taking care of the newborn, Simon and falling in love with both him and his arrogant, dark father.

Soon Clarise's deception is uncovered and yet Christian can't send her away. Together they must battle old enemies and find a way to start anew.

The author has made me a fan and I look forward to more from her.

4.0 out of 5 stars An ingenious tale with really good leads, 4.5 stars, November 30, 2010
This review is from: Danger's Promise (Seduction Romance) (Paperback)
Danger's Promise is a medieval tale with two fantastic leads that complement each other well. Both are noble and compassionate people and the reader cannot help but root for them from the first chapter.

Clare has a terrible step father who is so brutal that he forces her to poison his enemy Christian de la Croix or he will hang her sisters and her mother. Clare is desperate but afraid of Christian too and she has no idea how to enter his castle. Help comes in the form of a baby, Christian's wife died during childbirth and he is anxious to find a wet nurse for his motherless son. When Clare hears of this need she volunteers for the job even though she has never had a child.

Clare is resourceful and her ingenuity at this "nursing" ploy is daring and dangerous. I kept wondering how she would make the situation work; the author has plotted this portion of the novel well. Clare is surprised by Christian as she has heard he is nothing but an unfeeling warrior killing all in his path. What she discovers is a wearied man who loves his son and wants to attain peace. Clare is confused by her feelings but realizes she could never harm Christian but also she fears for her family.

Christian is entranced by Clare but is suspicious of her also and he is not the only one, others in the household wonder about Clare too. Clare and Christian have a relationship that is not initially based in truth but somehow their feelings are sincere. Clare is attracted the fair minded Christian and he is equally desirous of Clare but she lives in the constant fear that her lies will be discovered by Christian.

This is an entertaining novel due to the ingenious plot and the good characters. The leads are put into situations which test their mettle and they emerge from the challenges stronger and more self aware. This debut is on the keeper shelf.
