Nice a-side, intriguing b-side., December 21, 2006
This review is from: Dani California (Audio CD)
"Dani California" was the leadoff single to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium", released per standard operating procedure from Warner Bros. as a two part single.
The track itself is a great piece, with an odd lurching swing to its verses and an explosive chorus relying on a Pixie-like loud-soft formula. The song has drawn a lot of negative attention for its similarities to Tom Petty's "Last Dance With Mary Jane"-- I didn't note the similarity until it was pointed out to me, as such it really didn't do much to my opinion of the piece.
The second part of the single contains one b-side in "Million Miles of Water". Clean tone electric guitars and tight arrangements dominate the verses, opening up into a bright chorus where the instrumental density uncoils. All in all, it's nice stuff.
Still, the title track is on the album and it's sort of hard to rationalize paying a markup for an out of print single for one track. This one's decent, but it's probably better left to the diehards.

Good CD, November 11, 2007
Good cd for a collector. If you are not a big fan of the peppers and like this song this cd is worth buying. If you are a fan buy the complete cd.

A Million Miles Of Water is a good song. It's not wildly rocking, but it's not a ballad either. The verses are funky and it has a chorus that's very melodic. If you like songs like Charlie or She Looks To Me then you'll like this one too.
