From Booklist
A 23-year-old Indy Racing League rookie in 2005, Patrick zoomed into the public eye that year as the fourth woman ever to compete in the Indianapolis 500. This biography begins with an account of her exciting ride on that day. The rest of the book traces Patrick’s career from her go-kart races as a 10-year-old through the summer of 2007. Information about her races is sketchy after the 2005 season, though, and the appended statistics on her record include only the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Still, racing fans will enjoy the details of speedway excitement as well as the many clear, color photos, and girls interested in the sport will follow Patrick’s career path with particular interest. Sidebars, a chronology, a glossary, and lists of books and Internet sites round out the presentation. Though most of the titles in the Race Car Legends Collector’s Edition series are revisions of books from the earlier Race Car Legends series, this entry is entirely new. Grades 5-8. --Carolyn Phelan
