Daniel & Ana is named after the wealthy siblings Daniel and Ana Torres. Daniel attends high school as Ana prepares for her wedding. Daniel tentatively moves forward with his girlfriend. His biggest concern is not owning a car. Ana's problem is that her fiance Rafa has been offered a job in Spain. He wants to take the job; she wants to remain in Mexico City with her family. Then three men kidnap the brother and sister and sexually assault them in a way that makes them feel especially culpable. They are released physically unharmed but in a state of complete shock.

The acting is excellent, especially by Marimar Vega as the sexy and confident Ana. The scene in which she and Daniel are kidnapped is chilling and graphic. The also beautiful Dario Yazbeck Bernal successfully conveys Daniel's vulnerability. However, though their initial paralysis is portrayed with painstaking realism, the audience sees absolutely no line between the initial assault and Daniel's eventual actions. His later reaction comes across as unbelievable and sensationalistic. The clueless parents are not at fault, but they are pushed to the background and thus not particularly sympathetic.

Clinically shot and scored with overplayed bits of classical music, this attempt to raise awareness about coerced victims of pornography is ostensibly a true story. Unfortunately, this tale of close siblings forced apart is more disturbing than moving, thanks to muddy psychology.

Daniel and Ana's parents are so good at pretending they live in Manhattan that they have forgotten the real Mexico roaring at their back. Their luxurious white home is sterile and their parenting skills are nil. So when their children are violated, they just don't get it. The young people struggle on as best they can, but the task of coming to terms with events is too much for 16 year old Daniel, who collapses under the influence of a toxic mix of trauma, hormones and fantasy. Everything in this world is for sale - Ana's love for her fiance is expressed in the materialistic act of choosing a wedding dress, Daniel's parents show their love by giving him a car,and a young person's innocence is worth exactly what it will fetch on the porn market. In misery, Daniel turns not to his family, but to a professional psychologist, who happens not to be available; when his mother despairs, all she can do is threaten him with psycho-analysis. Dario Yazbek plays Daniel with quiet intensity and a beautiful touch of enigma - Marimar Vega's performance is occasionally superficial, and at times the editing is clumsy -however,this is a remarkable film, which though undeniably disturbing, should make everybody involved with young people stop for a moment and check their priorities.

It's a re-enactaction based on true events. There is a grave; stark simplicity to this film that makes no bones of a rape between a brother and sister and how they deal with their private trauma after. There are enough of the details to make perfect sense. To sensationalise is to disgrace. The background to the film is her wedding which is ironic because it's the joining of two people as they Should be.
That the deed in this film and it's would be consequences has occurred for sport and profit and will in future is without doubt. The film is a chilling warning......so now you know.....

I thought that this movie was good. The story line itself was devastating just the fact of forcing two siblings to have sex sickens me. I think about how I would feel if I had to do the same with my brother... It would be so hard for me... I would never recover.
But I felt the most for Deniel, even though he handled it a little better at first, ana was the one who tried to fix it. But that was too hard for him, he didn't know how to handle it. And I was reading his body language in the film, everything and I mean everything made him feel uncomfortable and he didn't know how to handle his feelings. I noticed that when ana even moved a step toward him he would immediately cover his crotch area throughout most of the movie.
I have to say this movie made me cry, and the fact that it actually happened makes my heart ache... I think everyone should have a chance to know their story.

How would you handle the situation these teens were subjected to? This film provides a not too
subtle treatment of PTSD as applied to teens in the midst of age appropriate angst. That the parents
are clueless about the plight of their children says much about denial of the privileged class in a country
where kidnapping is endemic.

Some good acting and I am sure this could and does happen. It would be a brother and sister's worse nightmare, they are kidnaped and forced to do things that is unforgiven a little hard to watch.

A fascinating movie, but one that so much more could have been done with! The plot has to do with a brother and sister and how they deal with an event that challenges their relationships through a sexual misfortune that is no fault of their own. Bernal could have done a much better job of deepenig the characters and exploring how they evolve and cope with the event in their lives, but he does not. Sad, because if he had, this would have been a very outstanding movie.

Nonetheless, it is intersting and thought-provoking, and the fact that it is looslely based on real happenings is quite distressing and gives it an importance that makes it worth watching.
