Cain's Birthday - Great 2-part Episode - Also Included In Season 1, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Daniel Boone - Cain's Birthday, Parts 1 & 2 (DVD)
For those that are just looking for a few special episodes of Fess Parker's Daniel Boone series, this two-part episode "Cain's Birthday" is one you may want to put on that list. It has the women and children of the Boone's Borough Settlement(in "Kain-Tuck") holed up inside the fort defending - with very little ammunition, but a little help from Daniel,Yad and Mingo - their very lives.
Persuaded by a power hungry Frenchman, several of the Indian tribes have banded together under his leadership and coercion, taken most of the men of Boone's Borough prisoners, and are trying to take the fort from the settlers. "Dan'l"(Parker) and Mingo(Ed Ames) manage by various methods to stall off the attack for a time, but it is inevitable. Yad(Albert Salmi) meanwhile is at the fort with the women and children trying to whip them into a tough militia. So there are many tense as well as humorous moments - including Yad dressed as a woman and a crusty old English officer enlisted to help with the fight. There are also some spectacular explosions(for a TV series of the 60's).The women are feisty and even Dan'ls kids take part in the action and little Israel even comes up with one of the better ideas for defending the fort.
But if you really loved this series, and want to see all the episodes,or if you are looking for a good family show - they are sold by the seasons, and this two-parter(45 minutes each) is part of the first season( on disc 7). It's nostaligic and also a wonderful family series about a true hero and his family and comrades that depicts American frontier life in the late 18th century. You can put the seasons in your cart and watch for a good price. The first season has 8 discs, most have 4 episodes on each, disc 7 has three(including this 2 parter), and disc 8 has 2.
I am just finishing up season 1 and I can't wait to get started on season 2. The theme song is so catchy it's stuck in my head - "Daniel Boone was a man, yes a Big man, wih an eye like an eagle......"(fans you know the rest)
Enjoy and Happy Holidays to All....Laurie

"Man From UNCLE" music used on this episode of "Daniel Boone", January 28, 2011
This review is from: Daniel Boone - Cain's Birthday, Parts 1 & 2 (DVD)
My wife was just watching an old "Daniel Boone" episode on TV. Suddenly, I noticed what sounded a lot like "Wild Bike" from Morton Stevens' suite on the The Man from U.N.C.L.E. soundtrack CD. Sure enough, IMDb informed me that Morton Stevens had scored "Cain's Birthday: Part 1", which was the episode she was watching. It was shot in 1965, so it seems that Mr. Stevens recycled this piece of UNCLE music for Dan'l.
