Book Description

June 28, 2010
What does faith look like in a multicultural world? There is no better example than that of Daniel, the young teen taken captive during the Chaldean conquest of Jerusalem and brought to the city of Babylon, a pagan metropolis under the leadership of a cruel tyrant king. Daniel's amazing story spans a lifetime in service to a pagan empire. Yet he never wavers in his commitment to the God he loved. In the course of serving the king of Babylon, we see his influence form a bond of trust resulting in some of the most remarkable chapters of the entire Bible. The prophecies given to Daniel were so detailed, critics have no choice but to claim the book was written after the events took place. It has proven to be among the most authenticated books of the Bible, one that even Jesus referred to as having been authored by Daniel himself.

If you want to see what real faith looks like, this verse- by-verse commentary takes you through the entire book of Daniel in everyday language, to give you thorough, life-changing insight. Includes comprehensive timelines, maps and photographs.

From the Inside Flap

An example for our times
A devout teenage boy of noble birth is seized by a cruel military force and marched east as a slave to a pagan land. He would never again see the familiar, narrow winding streets of the city where he grew up, a place filled with the warmth and presence of the God he loved. For the next 70 years, his home would be a metropolis with streets as straight and wide as modern day freeways, its imposing city walls towering many stories into the air.

Daniel was uprooted from his beloved Jerusalem and thrust into Babylon, the center of the mighty Chaldean empire, in 605BC. With three friends by his side, he completed a three-year training course to learn the complex Chaldean cuneiform language, then proved himself so intelligent, wise and effective a leader that the empire's tyrant king bestowed on him one of the highest positions of authority. But living as a devout Jew in a pagan empire was anything but easy. Faced with bigotry and constant attacks on his faith, Daniel persevered and trusted God through trials that would test even the most committed believer. In the process, he shows us that a life of integrity, lived with a strong moral compass, has a worth beyond measure.

This commentary, many years in development, takes you through the book of Daniel verse by verse to make it clear and understandable, whatever your level of Bible knowledge. You'll find this study both entertaining and insightful. You'll gain a deeper appreciation of Daniel's life and his example of faith which applies to us now more than ever, along with inspiring fresh insight into the many detailed prophecies Daniel was given.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched, beautifully presented, July 21, 2011

How can a story written 2500 years ago be relevant today? A read of this excellent book helps answer that question.

The book is a thoughtful, well researched study of the biblical book of Daniel, which chronicles the life of a young Hebrew who, with his countrymen, is taken into exile in Babylon. From an intellectual point of view I am impressed with the author's verse by verse study of the book, and his thorough work in giving an understanding of the times in which Daniel lived through timelines, photos, maps and illustrations. But you don't have to be an intellectual to understand it. The author's writing style makes it clear whatever your level of Bible knowledge. In fact, it reads more like a novel. But it is much more than a novel. You finish with the sense that Daniel's life reaches through the centuries with a message to our times.
