How can a story written 2500 years ago be relevant today? A read of this excellent book helps answer that question.
The book is a thoughtful, well researched study of the biblical book of Daniel, which chronicles the life of a young Hebrew who, with his countrymen, is taken into exile in Babylon. From an intellectual point of view I am impressed with the author's verse by verse study of the book, and his thorough work in giving an understanding of the times in which Daniel lived through timelines, photos, maps and illustrations. But you don't have to be an intellectual to understand it. The author's writing style makes it clear whatever your level of Bible knowledge. In fact, it reads more like a novel. But it is much more than a novel. You finish with the sense that Daniel's life reaches through the centuries with a message to our times. Bill Bonikowsky |
