Good reading,
By Cat Whisperer "wildaboutbooks" (Hughson, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Daniel's Desire (Silhouette Special Edition No. 1555) (Mass Market Paperback)
You really can't go wrong with a Sherryl Woods book. The last book in the Devaneys series, Daniel deals with mistakes made in the past with his old love, a runaway who won't explain why she ran and his parents reasoning for abandoning his brothers. I have to admit I did not like the story behind the abandonment. After it was explained I felt that the parents love for each other was more important than their children. But overall a very good read!

I already had one of the Devaney books. When I realized that it was one of five in a series, I ordered the other four. I received all four in a very timely manner. They arrived in very good condition. I finished reading all five and thoroughly enjoyed each book of the five bothers.

Good romance.....but a little far-fetched!,

Even though I enjoyed this book and liked the romantic plot of Molly and Daniel rekindling their old relationship, there were parts to the story that were a little far-fetched. For one thing, Kendra, the runaway would never say what made her run from home. Molly seemed liked too sensible of a person to not try and get the real reason for Kendra running away. The book went on and on, never settling this point to the very end, and it was not really believable that Daniel, the child advocate and the policeman would continue delaying the return of Kendra to her waiting and anxious parents. And then, when the truth came out why she ran away, it was like......"is that it?".....a simple conversation between the girl and her parents could have resolved the problem.
Also, the whole reason that Daniel's parents abandoned the three brothers that he and Patrick had never known....seemed ridiculous and cruel. If you were financially trapped, wouldn't you give up to adoption the two newborn twins who would grow up knowing a set of parents that were chosen from their birth....instead of giving up three older children who knew and loved their real parents and were abandoned one day without explanation. That part of the story did NOT work well for me. Even given the explanation, I thought it was "weak". Somehow, though, this book is still a "good read" just with some "issues".

Years before, Daniel Devaney had broken Molly Creighton's heart when he told her that he wouldn't be their baby's father. She has blamed him for her miscarriage ever since. But when a teen runaway comes into Molly's life, there is no way she can keep her ex-boyfriend out. He is responsible for the case and intends to bring the teen home unless he can find evidence of abuse. Author Sherryl Woods milks emotional intensity from the lost relationship between Daniel and Molly, Kendra's teen angst, and especially the mystery of Daniel's parents who abandoned Daniel's older brothers as children. DANIEL'S DESIRE shouldn't work. The core conflict between Molly and Daniel is too easily resolved, Kendra's problem is created only by both Kendra and her parents refusing to talk about something that should not have been a secret, and the explanation of the Delanay abandonment was, to me at least, worse than no explanation at all. Still, Woods manages to make the story hang together and keep the reader cheering for Molly and all of the Delaneys to get their acts together.
