I have several large crab traps and one will use this Danielson Crab Trap Harness with 4 corner strap arms and clips on one of them. This harness is well made and the rope is 1/4 inch braid, with crimped metal to hold the loops onto the snaps. The price is a little high, but the amount of work that must go into the assembly it probably is what it takes to make one for sale and distribution. The spring snaps are well made and should hold up well with a good rinse after use. A solid SS ring connects the 4 strap arms of the harness. I love it.

This is a generic 4 arm harness rigging meant for a large crab, shrimp, or lobster pot or net. Use on smaller devices is possible but would be tremendous overkill. Also, this is the harness rigging only; one must add a retrieval line (above it), and a trap or net (below it), in order to complete a working ensemble needed to capture crustaceans.

Though the engineering concept behind this product is solid, the materials choices weren't well thought out at all and that effectively cripples it. Given that Danielson is a long time marine products company, I'm very surprised at this glaring oversight. My suspicion is that Danielson failed to keep an eye on their parts supplier and someone down that line (who didn't understand the salt water environment) thought to cheap their way out and replaced a part with a lower grade one without telling Danielson; thus the metal clasps which cover the knot ends (to prevent their unraveling) began to markedly corrode after only one salt water usage. In essence, this is unforgivable.

Additionally, the four metal snap link's moving gate closure mechanism isn't made from a solid piece, but rather looks like a paper clip. I decided not to risk losing a trap so I replaced the snap links with solid stainless steel versions from home depot. On the plus side, the four, 30 inch long ropes attached to a central ring are thick and can bear a tremendous amount of weight so long as the harness is paired with a retrieval line of the same stout caliber. But overall I cannot ever trust this harness for more than a few uses at best as the risk of losing a trap is too great due to the rapid corrosion of the knot clasps. IMHO, a product that threatens imminent failure after only one use isn't even worth considering.

This harness works well but the hardware corrodes quite quickly. Plan on replacing it due to rust or loose your pot after one season.
