5.0 out of 5 stars super boot! Danner Rules!
I spent 23 years in the Marines, wearing standard issue boots, and my feet hurt the entire time. That time is now over for me. As I understand it, Marines can now purchase their own commercial boots to wear with their uniform. Danner Fort Lewis boots are expensive, but would be at the top of my list of boots to wear on duty.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as perfect as I thought they should be
I read super reviews, and wanted the best, so I bought these. I am quite disappointed, actually. I am a girl, maybe that made the difference. The toe cap rubbed my toes something fierce. The soles are super, I loved that about them. But they are really heavy and I clump everywhere. This has not changed in 2 months. I have strong legs, so this is not a weakness issue. They...

5.0 out of 5 stars super boot! Danner Rules!, April 10, 2011

I did a lot of research before buying these boots. These boots have the classic "stitch down" design, a wonderful vibram sole of the boot and a full ten inch upper. The boots come with a partial inserts. After replacing the partial inserts with a full-length insert (Superfeet) and wearing two paris of socks, my toes have little room to move in the toebox. I can walk downhill without jamming my toes at the front of the boot, but there is no room to spare. When wearing two pairs of socks with the full length insert, my toes are comfortable, but immobile. I wore these boot 8 hours the first day I had them and had no issues with blisters, etc. I have since worn them on several long walks with the dog, and my feet have never been happier. The boots are a tiny bit on the heavy side, and I can't imagine running in them, but the comfort they are providing is priceless. My feet feel indestructible in these boots, and I would have no problem taking on any rough terrain in them. The boots withstood the "standing in 6 inches of rainwater" test and remained dry after 5 minutes walking a couple hundred yards in a pretty fast moving stream. Lacing the boots is simple and fast. When walking, the boots sound a bit clunky, and look a bit scary. They make my pets nervous, and some people stare. Many times, I have worn these boots to work (desk job). They have never made my feet excessively hot or sweaty, whether in the office or walking the dog around the neighborhood. I have not been walking in HOT / Sunny weather yet.

I have a bad combination of very wide feet with very high arches, and even with two pairs of socks, (and the full-length insert) I can get into the boots with no difficulty, despite toebox having no "wiggle" room. I bought the 9.5EE, and the boots have stretched a bit further on the side to accomodate my particular feet. Next time (years from now), I will try 9.5EEEE, but my current boots have adapted very nicely to my feet, so maybe 9.5EE is really the better size for me. We will see. Often, new boots will pinch my feet and cause some inflamed tendons. Gloriously, these boots adapted smoothly to my weird feet the first day I wore them. After wearing these boots most days for the past month, my feet are pain-free! I have not been able to say that about any other boots I have ever owned. THANK YOU to Danner!

Bottom line, these boots are AWESOME. If you need more room in the toebox, you may want to go up a bit in size, wear only a single pair or socks or use a partial insert (the boots come with a partial insert). These boots are made in the USA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best!, January 2, 2010
Absolutely the best boots I have ever owned. I have two pairs and alternate them everyday. They wear like iron and are so very tough. They breath and are water proof. They protect the foot and ankle wonderfully. I have the 200 grams of thinsulate (sp?)and wear them during the summer in sometime over 100 degree weather. I highly recommend these boots.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good boots., January 9, 2012
I have worn these boots five days a week for the past year. They were hell on my feet for the first three months until they were broken in. I love these boots for rainy weather but prefer a shorter boot for daily use. I would recommend these boots if you're looking for a tall, waterproof, durable boot.

They have a bit of a pointed toe, too. I do not think these are sexy, on me or anyone else. Danner has been nice enough about my issues, but I forsee a lot of money continuing with these. For standing long periods, these are probably great. But I will have to run, walk and try to be stealthy. Forget it with these! Maybe in a year or two, they will be quieter? I tried to buy American, but these are just not that great. Sorry.. I see that another man has said the same things, now that I re-read the reviews. I will try to walk through a river, or let the sun soften them. I hope it helps, otherwise I just flushed over $300.

5.0 out of 5 stars perseverance pays off, October 18, 2011

I spent 11 years in the British Army followed by 14 years in law enforcement.

I have tried all kinds of boot from supposed "tactical" boots which turn out to be crap, to GP boots. Lace up, side zips and everything in between. Generally (with a few exeptions) I was disapointed. Before the Fort Lewis I had 2 pairs of Danner. a GTX Cordura sided pair (briliant) and a leather side zip pair (not so great but OK). I was a fan but they wore out in the sole quite quickly.

I eventually bought the Danner Fort Lewis after seeing them on Amazon for half the price of my on-line gear shop . Initially I was disapointed, VERY disapointed. They are a narrow fit and I have broad feet. You can feel the toe box lining and it rubs. They are heavy. They feel like a couple of dumpsters on your feet. I was not a happy boy. It's a good thing that I didn't pay over $700 that the on line criminals were asking.

Then... After walking through a river for an hour at work (feet remained dry so the goretex works), I took them off and oiled them up and dried them. Since then I have 10" hi top sneakers. Fantastic. I wear mine every work day and love them. I can not reccomend them highly enough. Be prepared to break them in for a while or rub them with hot melted leather dressing and leave them in the sun for a day..

The only customising that I have done is to remove the factory inner sole and put in an orthitic.

Dave

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the most comfortable boot I have worn., July 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have worn several issue boots that ranged from really good (Matterhorn ICB's) to terrible (Vietnam Era Jungle Boots were still issued in 1999 when I enlisted). USMC issues Danners now, and I have always heard great things about Danner boots. I'm in a rare spot in the military that still wears black boots and these fit the required specs nicely. The comfort is unmatched by anything I have owned to date.

For comfort, they required zero break-in period. My only complaint is that the leather is squeaky. Flexing & extending my toe makes a lot of noise (it's not the sole) but this will probably (hopefully) break in. I have never had all-leather boots before, so maybe that is leather's M.O.

Unfortunately I am resigned to a desk for the time being so I can't speak to how they do in the elements. They are damm sexy though.

The price is good compared to Danner's website and a big thanks to all stores (including this one) on amazon that ship to FPO/APO. It's just like shipping to New York, so spread the word to all the vendors.

I got these for my husband who has a job very serious job working mainly outside, on his feet all day and sometimes all night. His other boots wore out and I surprised him with these. After reading reviews this seemed the way to go. He wears them even off duty they are so comfy! They look great an are really holding up well for what he puts them through everyday! If in doubt over the money... Spend it! Well worth the comfort and durability!

5.0 out of 5 stars This boot is above all others, January 4, 2010

I bought my first pair of these about 25 years ago and I will keep buying them. I've rappelled off buildings and hung from trees in these boots, walked miles with gear slung all over the place, and sat hours watching and waiting. Remember if your feet don't go you don't go and substandard boots will show their lousy side when you need them most. If you value your life don't cut corners on the gear to protect it.
