5.0 out of 5 stars Best boots-period., October 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been a police officer for a long time, most of my career as a canine handler. I found out a long time ago that you get what you pay for in foot wear, and not to skimp on good boots. Danners are the best I have found after trying out several other top brands. I have been wearing Danners at work for over 15 years now, and this is my first pair for off-duty wear. The quality is every bit as good as my duty boots and I look forward to years of wear from them. They are a bit stiff when you first get them so my recommendation is to break them in slowly; just use common sense. I did about two weeks of 2 mile walks with mine and they are feeling great. Brown Kiwi should keep them looking great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes a while to break in, April 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It tooks weeks to break in, but now that they are broken in I can wear them all day. Treats my feet better then my running shoes. When the sole is worn away send them to Danner and let them rebuild them. This boot should last you twenty years. Oh, and they are american made.

This is my 3rd pair of Danner boots in this style. I have had other style Danner boots, but this is my favorite. They are light weight, comfortable, and the most durable boots I have owned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Danner product, February 3, 2012

I was very pleased to receive these boots so quickly. They were well packaged and, as I am accustomed to great products from Danner, these were no exception. Good fit. Took a little longer than usual to get comfortable with a higher fit on my ankle. Otherwise, the boot is already one of the best I have owned.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite pair of boots ever, November 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had a pair of Danners when I was deployed to Bosnia in the winter of 97 through Spring of 98, and I've always thought they were the best pair of shoes I've ever owned. While I was there I walked more than I ever have in my life and there was always deep mud, snow, rain or a combination of the three wherever I went. The gortex liner kept my feet warm and dry through it all. And the boots fit like a glove. Unfortunately I dried out my boots every day by putting them next to the diesel heater in our tent, and that dried out and cracked the leather after around 4 months of wear. Nevertheless, I still consider those the best shoes I've ever owned.

I got my new pair and I'm just thrilled with them. They fit perfectly, and they're just as comfortable as I remembered. It will take a while to break in, but even brand new they're awesome. I love the fact that they're lightweight and the sole has some bend so they're easy on the feet. There's also some decent cushion in the insole. Great great boots. I've balked at buying a new pair of these for years because of the price, but I figured I was going to buy a new pair of boots for $120 so why not splurge and get these awesome boots instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Falls a little short, March 1, 2011
First these boots are "old school cool". They have an older hiking boot design that will appeal to you right away. They look like serious boots that are well made and make you feel good having them on.

So what is the problem. There are a basically three. First the insoles are made into the boot. I am used to having removable ones that will allow you to customize the boot to your feel. Danner makes excellent insoles they call fatigue fighters that are the best I have worn, and I would like to have those in these boots. The insole just does not provide enough cushion. This creates some discomfort toward the end of the day when you are wearing them in a non-hiking environment. Hiking is OK because dirt is softer than asphalt, but you don't wear even hiking boots just in the woods.

Second the part where you lace them up (don't know the cobbler name) will bump together before they are tight enough for me. There should be a little more space so you could get the boot on tighter and not have the leather tongue bunch up especially at the top where the eyelets are.

Which brings up the third; the eyelets at the top are too small so you have to maintain tension on the laces to keep them in the eyelets until you can get them tied.

The boots have very good leather, an excellent stable sole platform, and in my opinion super looks. Also the Gore-Tex works like it should and water-proofing is very good so far however I can't tell if the bootie extends under the made in in-sole cushion and if the integrity will maintain over time. Danner has been making boots for a long time so you hope it is and would. If Danner had done a couple of things different these would have been 5 star plus.
