I normally wear a 10.5 4E or 11 EE. My right foot is about a half size smaller than my left. I had read reviews that these run a little small, so I ordered them in 11 Wide. They fit well in the left foot but the toe box was shorter on the right foot and really smashed my toes. It seems like I had maybe gotten a pair that quality control missed.

Amazon was great accepting the return.

Now for quality. While I didn't wear these boots out of the house, I can tell you that they seem very solidly built, in line with what I have come to expect from Danner. All stitching was neat and symmetrical, there were no flaws or defects I could detect from a thorough examination of the boots (apart from the smaller right boot).

I would recommend these as a boot, and am actually considering rolling the dice on another pair, but I am on the fence if I should try 11.5 Wide or 12 Wide. If I do order another pair, I will try to remember to update this review.

THREE DAYS LATER

I rolled the dice because I liked these boots so much and was so sad for the problems in the first pair I recieved. I ended up ordering the 12 Wide after a great deal of debate with myself.

These boots fit how they should. There is ample room in the toes, and when I jam my feet forward to test the size, I can get my finger behind the left and a finger plus a little on the right. This is what I would expect, and what I would normally find with a size 11. So for hiking boots, the 12 Wide is just right (and 11.5 Wide would have worked too).

So here is my advice, If you have wide feet, get the wide. Order one FULL size up from your normal shoe size and you should be pretty spot on in terms of fit. I am a 10.5 4E so I would normally get 10.5 4E or 11 E/EE. As these boots are not in 4E, I uses the latter as my plan. Added one size and I am just right.

And just a note, the traditional Danner Styled Boots (Rain Forest, Fprt Lewis, USMC RAT) follow my normal sizing, 11EE. From what my research turned up, it is the hiker styled danners that may require the upsizing for a proper fit.

Hope this was helpful!

Danner makes a great boot, hands down the best in class.
Normal size is 10 1/2 wide, all my RAT boots fit in this size, Opted for 11 EE because they tend to run narrow up front.
Required little to no break in, a big plus.
Gortex , waterproof is a major item, a feature that I look for.
These will last me a life time.
Very Pleased with these boots.

Here's the problem I had. I own several pairs of Danner boot and all size 12, but still base a lot of my purchases off of what the reviews explain. The reviews I saw of these said they are "hiking" boots and sized accordingly. Mine have all been military boots. The reviews explained that they run small and you should go up a size so, with amazon.com's exchange policy in mind, I went with the next size up, size 13d. To me these fit like 13's should and I was swimming in them. I returned them for size 12d and, just like the reviews said, they ran small. They didn't feel short and in comparison to my other boots the were not short. They were in fact narrow. Luckily for me the offer wide sizes so I returned them in exchange for 12ee. This is where the headache started. I received the 12ee and tried them on. They fit exactly like the 12d so I looked at the tag and they WERE 12d. The box was right but the boots were wrong. I exchanged them explaining that the wrong product was in the right box and they sent me a replacement. The replacement came with a tamper band so that the consumer would know if the product had been tampered with. When I opened the box (labeled 12ee) I immediately checked the tag and it was 12d. Two in a row leads me to believe that some of the products have been packaged incorrectly by the manufacturer. The boots look like they are good quality but I'll never know because I could never get a pair that fit.

I bought a pair of these and a pair of Salomon GTX 4 D's on the same order. Night and day difference in the comfort!! I have what I would say is a "skinny and narrow" foot. These are so tight on the top of my feet that it is painful. I tried to break them in for about 4 days and gave up. The Salomon's I put on and wore comfortablely strainght out of the box. They are similairly priced so I would save your money and go directly to the Salomons. It is unfornante that the quality of the Danner name has gone away in recent years. Danners used to be my favorite type of boot to buy. I have a new favorite as of now!!

After looking at boots for a couple of weeks, I saw price drop, so I ordered a pair, delivery was on time. I opened package, color was off somewhat, no big deal. What was described as being made in U.S. in description, was made in China. With that being said, the fit was as good as other Danner boots I have purchased. I have walked approximately 5 miles in them at a time and did not find any flaws. Being made in China, I have doubts about durability. They are comfortable to hike in.
If boots had been made in U.S.would have given 5 stars

I have worn Red Wings for many years. They have become very uncomfortable, hurt my feet. I've notice Military Personnel wearing Danners and thought I'd try them. This boot is very comfortable and light weight. Perfect summer shoe for me. I will purchase another pair of winter boots before the cold weather arrives. The boots seam snug, and might buy a half size larger if available.

I normally wear an 8EE, which was too small and cramped in the right toe area on this boot. I tried an 8.5EE, no difference from the 8EE. Got a different style of Danner boot, 8EE, no problems now. I think Danner has an issue with the Gavre sizing, particularly for the right boot.

For over 20 years I have worn a Danner 10 1/2 size boot. I ordered a 10 1/2 (way too small) and a size (11 still small). Unlike their duty or uniform boots these run small and narrow at the toe. I gave up on them fitting and went for a pair of great Keens (size 11).

The left boot fits great. But the right has a eyelet, first one at the bottom that purtrudes right behind the little toe. Very uncomfortable. I walked around the house before leaving for Argentina and now wishing I had purchased different boots.......Jim Stack

I hike a lot. These boots will support my 53 year old feet. My feet have changed over the years. If you're a "master hiker" with developing foot issues then the Gavre may be the new boot for you.
