Product Description

At Danner, they are craftsmen. They pay attention to details. They forgo quantity for quality, with the knowledge that the boots they craft are no better than the hands that create them.

This 50130 Danner Men's Tachyon Hot Military Boots was engineered to be our lightest most flexible boot ever for combat training and for daily use. It weighs in at a mere 26 oz. We've taken our typical Danner boot and completely overhauled it to take out any and all extra weight without neglecting comfort and performance. This upper is completely synthetic for superior weight savings with the added benefit of an ultra-fast dry time. Speed lacing and a 3-layer comfort system work together to create a snug, comfortable fit. Most boots in this weight category have a composite rubber outsole but the Tachyon features a true rubber outsole for superior abrasion resistance and traction.

All in all, a great hiking boot, or would be great for police, EMT/Paramedic, or a physical training boot.

First off, if I could rate these boots on comfort alone I would give them 5 stars. However, after only 54 days of wear the solestarted separating from the boot at the toe. Unacceptable.

I will begin by saying I really like these boots. They are lightweight, and man made so they are literally machine washable. They are light and comfortable like the Nikes and Rocky C4T, but unlike those, you DO NOT feel rocks poking your feet.

Now the downside. The FIRST time I did land navigation in these boots (I'm in the Army), and had to walk through some really dense, rough terrain, the area of the sole connected to the toe began to work loose from the boot itself. I had to clean them and silicone the seam back together.

Danner did a good job, but needs to do a little R&D on a way to fix this issue.

As a service member i have gone through many boots in my time. For this purchase I wanted a boot that would be lightweight and great for the warm summer. This boot was perfect except for one thing. I order the wide version thinking that I wanted some extra room over my other boots that I had bought previously as normal width. Boy am I glad I did. This boot barely fit my foot width wise even though I ordered the wide version. So if you have wide feet I would highly recommend going with the extra wide version as the wide is more like a normal width.

Medics put a lot of miles on footwear with hours on end in a hot cramped ambulance running from call to call punctuated by moments of terror trying to assist the sick and injured. Needless to say I am looking for something light and comfortable like a tennis shoe and rugged with ankle support like a combat or duty boot.

    This is it!

These boots are lighter than my tennis shoes and just about as cool and comfortable. The abrasion resistant toe is a great feature because Medics do a lot of kneeling and squatting. Sick and injured people usually wind up on the ground for some strange reason (gravity) and the toe is usually the first part of the boots to show wear and give out, not here!

Break in period was 2 or 3 shifts being a little tight across the instep and donning the boot is not a fast process because there is no zipper and the shaft is not self supporting.

Bottom line: These boots are for those in a performance system where you put your boots on at the beginning of the shift and they are on until you go home. If you are a station dweller buy something else because you won't make your response times.

I ordered these as a replacement for my hot weather hiking boots. I served in the army with the arctic light infantry and spent years in the sandbox too, thus I have experience with many different types of combat boot. They are extremely light so I question even Danner's ability to make a boot this comfortable that would hold up to an actual combat occupation use or setting. I however just use them to slug through mud and climb the mountain trails of North Carolina. I haven't developed a single blister since hiking with these boots. The toes feel less protected than a hard leather combat boot but the increased flexibility of the whole boot and the weight reduction is well worth the loss in protection.
All in all, a great hiking boot, or would be great for police, EMT/Paramedic, or a physical training boot.

    Size: 7 & 1/2 Wide
    PROS:
    Extremely lightweight
    Increased flexibility
Speed laces are best I've ever had
Comfort right out of the box with no break in time
    Fit like a glove
    Cons:
    Toes feel under protected
    Not a Vibram sole

I 've been wearing this boots for a week now on and off duty with extensive walking, going in&out vehicles, stairs, running, kneeling..., so far very comfortable, they are very light weight, agile, suitable for running & standing on them for long periods of time.
Zero break in time, there is nothing to brake in really. This boots are durable and suitable for urban environments, however I haven't put them to the test in the woods yet, which I will soon.
Speed-lace system works great, fast & smooth. Long 550 cord laces. If you spill something on the boot, there are not the easiest material to clean up tho, for is not leather but some sort of suede / canvas material in the upper.
I tried their direct competition, the Nike SF at the store and in my opinion this are more agile & light-weight, can't say about long-term heavy duty durability yet but I might update this review in near future as I wear out the boot farther.

These boots are the lightest shoes I've ever worn, even lighter than my running shoes. I just received them in the mail today, and was looking for a pair of extremely comfortable boots to run in with price not being a factor. After looking at another pair of 5.11s and a pair of Under-Armour, I settled with Danners. I'm not disappointed. They fit like a glove, and grip on pavement is excellent.

I'll be heading to a desert environment come summer, where I plan to test them out thoroughly.

    EDIT:

I took it to the Desert environment, and they held up quite well in India's monsoon rains as well.

My major gripe with these boots is that the frame design of these boots (no support above ankles) means they were very uncomfortable trekking through muddy farmland. When my feet would sink into the earth, I sometimes would lose my gripping. Additionally, the minimalist design on the soles of these boots probably contributed as well.

They did however hold up to the intense 120 degrees Fahrenheit heat, so I won't deduct stars.
