Great guide for basic workbenches, May 5, 2007
This review is from: Danny Proulx's Toolboxes & Workbenches (Paperback)
This book provides a nice guide for basic workbenches and tool boxes. Do not get this book if you want a fancy bench focused on hand tools, as there is no discussion here along the lines of bench dogs and tail vices. For that reason I gave it four stars rather than five. Mr. Proulx provides designs that are thoughtful in the space, time, and expense they take up. Along with the designs are construction notes and shop tips detailing alternative methods or additional hints. The projects in this book are as follows:
1) Toolbox tote - your basic toolbox with a clever addition of additional storage.
2) Simple workbench
3) Fold away work center - this was the first project I built from the book. It works very well and sets up/breaks down immediately.
4) Rolling tool cabinet - nice way to learn frame and panel construction.
5) Tall storage cabinets
6) simple sawhorses
7) Rolling shop cart
8) hand tool cabinet
9) base cabinet work center
10) carpenter's toolbox
11) carver's tool chest
12) mobile tool chest
13) adjustable work table
I have constructed (and enjoyed) three of these projects. As always, Danny Proulx does a very good job of outlining the projects, providing alternatives, and teaching new techniques. He uses basic materials that we can find (and afford) and keeps the tools required down to the basics that most of us have. I am very happy that I bought this book and I recommend it if you have a need in this area

Excellent Book, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Danny Proulx's Toolboxes & Workbenches (Paperback)
Excellent book, the cut lists are great and the projects I made straight up such as the tool tote, Drill Press Center and Router table were very easy. It allowed me to cut everything to size and go straight to assembly. Great pictures and instructions on depth/width of dado and/or rabbet cuts. For the pieces that required me to make some alterations to fit my tools such as the Mobile table saw base and rolling power workstation cart it was a great guide.
I purchased his other books as well and it has really made a positive change in my shop.

Disappointed, January 22, 2007

There is very little detail on the "how to".It seems the author was in it for the publishing money only.
