Dansk Alsace Stainless Steel 45 Piece Flatware Set

PROS:
1)The design of the flatware is very nice (that's what drew me to it in the first place - Better pictures can be found elsewhere on the net).

CONS:
1)This is NOT 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel. This is the inferior 18/0 stainless steel. I know that the Amazon listing does not specify which type. However, the seller's ebay listing for this same item states it is "18/10". I even emailed Dansk prior to purchasing and they replied that the flatware was 18/10. As soon as I opened the package, I knew it was not 18/10. It was magnetic. Stainless steel with nickel is NOT magnetic. It also did not have the luster of 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel. So, I called Dansk this time and a supervisor confirmed that this set is 18/0 and apologized for the incorrect information by email.
2)The stainless steel was STAINED...dark spots that would not come off by rubbing with a soft dry cloth.
3)The edges of the fork were rough.
4)The retail packaging, which I assume is not how it was originally packaged, was ridiculous. The flatware was simply placed in plastic bags with a rubber band around them. They were loose in two large inner cardboard boxes approximately 12 x 6 x 4 inches with no padding. Needless to say several of the pieces came out of the plastic bags and rubber bands. This allowed them to be tossed around inside the large inner boxes. For that matter, even the pieces that remained in the plastic bag / rubber band packing were being tossed around during shipping. There was at least 6 to 8 inches of empty space in each box. Pitiful. Keep in mind, this was inside the Dansk box. The packing of the Dansk box by Amazon was very good.

Now, I know some of you may be thinking, "What did you expect for the price?". Well, I expected a 18/10 stainless steel flatware set, service for 8. I expect that because I have gotten it in the past. I purchased a 53 piece Wallace 18/10 stainless steel set here on Amazon for the same price as this. 8 more pieces of 18/10 stainless steel for the same price! Also, there are deals at other online retailers for new 18/10 or 18/8 (service for 8) sets for under $50...right now.

So, yes you can find good deals on quality discontinued and/or closeout flatware sets. However, this product is far from a deal.

Bought this for a wedding gift for my brother and his wife. Great quality fantastic style and design. They loved it so much I bought another set for myself. Fantastic!

I was worried about this item at first because I purchased it before reading the reviews. The item arrived as was described previously rather loosely packed in the box. This did surprise me, however, the flatware itself is heavy duty and nicely made. It is not top of the line stainless steel but for what I paid I am extremely pleased with it. It will serve me very well as my daily flatware.

I already had this 8-piece set of Dansk flatware and was looking for another set so that I had enough if I used all of my 12-piece place settings for a dinner. I have a large family and am getting married in a couple of months. I started looking online and found that it was discontinued! Luckily I found it here, snapped it up for a fraction of the original price and it came to my door a few days later. I couldn't be happier. It is a perfect everyday flatware set for a young newly married couple.

We felt very lucky to come across a set of Dansk flatware and our purchase was verified when we received it and were even more satisfied than we believed we would have been. The flatware is of very high quality and we felt very lucky to get it at such low a price compared to what we've seen for Dansk items in the past. Thank you for stocking such an item and we hope to purchase items of simliar quality in the future.

The groove that shows on the front is concave in the back but I like it. The silverware is large and sturdy. I just got it so we shall see how it holds up to the dishwasher. Very satisfied and quick shipping.

THE DESIGN IS SIMPLE AND YET ELEGANT. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE LOW COST OF SUCH HIGH QUALITY. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THESE.
