5.0 out of 5 stars Great "child friendly" alternative to traditional hand weights..., December 31, 2005

This review is from: Danskin DA-1050R 8 lb. Weighted Toning Ball (Sports)
You can't go wrong buying any of the Danskin, GoFit or Valeo Weighted Toning/Fitness balls. The only difference among the 3 brands of balls is the diameters of the balls. All of the Valeo balls (regardless of weight) are ~5 inches in diameter. The diameters of the Danskin and GoFit balls, on the other hand, increase as the weight increases. So the diameters of the Danskin and GoFit balls are roughly as follows: 4lb=~5inches, 6lb=a little under 6 inches, 8lb=a little over 6.5 inches, and 10lb=roughly 7inches versus 5 inches for all of the Valeo balls.

All 3 brands of balls are made of soft vinyl, filled with sand and air, and a great alternative to the tranditional hand weights. They are all pretty comparable. If you are looking for 3lb balls, the Karen Voight 3lb green Genie Balls are very good. I recently purchased all 4 brands and selected the least expensive for each of the weight/sizes that I needed.

UPDATED (4/17/06): After using the toning balls for several months, I have found that I actually prefer neoprene dumbbells. Dumbbells are easier and more comfortable to hold and handle. I still think these are good toning balls. But given a choice between a toning ball and a neoprene dumbbell, I would choose a neoprene dumbbell.

It's a sand filled rubber ball that doesn't bounce. The price is good and it is sturdy. Much smaller than a medicine ball of the same weight. What more is there to say?

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this ball!, September 23, 2005
This review is from: Danskin DA-1050R 8 lb. Weighted Toning Ball (Sports)
I am so glad that I purchased this toning ball by Danskin. When I went to my local Sportsmart and Target, I found balls that were the same weight, however, they were much larger, cumbersome and more awkward to handle. Also, most of the balls found in the stores feel like a basketball- very rough to touch. This ball is about half the size of your normal 8lb. weighted ball, it is smooth and easy to palm because of it's "squishy" outer surface. I would highly recommend this ball to anyone who needs a toning ball, especially if you are going to buy the "Ultimate New York Body Plan" DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars best for core and ab training, January 13, 2007
This review is from: Danskin DA-1050R 8 lb. Weighted Toning Ball (Sports)
I bought this when I started by core strengthening classes at our local fitness center. I did not like the hard balls they have avail. This one is awesome. Not only is it a pretty color (important for women!). It is filled with a sand type of material that makes it easier to grip than the heavier more solid balls. According to my friend's husband who is a physical therapist these types of balls are better than more solid balls for your joints. I highly reccomend this product!

take a break and play ball with your friends at work. you don't have to worry about it flying all over the place, it just doesn't work that way. seems realy funky at first like a flat tire. but you will definitely enjoy this toy!
