I bought this set for use at home in basic excercises such as lunges, chest presses, bicep curls, tricep overheads and other weight training. We have a full weight set at home along with a full dumbell set, that being said, I use this set the most out of all my other home weights, besides the dumbells.

The basic advantage in this Danskin set is that the size makes the bar and the weights easy to handle for women. Also, the small size makes it easy to store the set under a bed and to work out in tight spaces. We have a regular bench press set at home for exercise, but the bar is difficult for handling during lunges and active weight training, it is simply too long and too heavy. Also, the bar, at 40 pounds is not great for "moving" exercises, such as lunges. This Danskin set, which you can upgrade to 36 pounds is a great way to "work up" to the 40 pound regular bench bar and beyond.

This set is wonderful for beginners. The fact that you can increase the weight makes it a set that a beginner can grow with.

The only major disadvantage that I can see is that for any serious exercise, you must purchase at least one additional 10 pound weight upgrade set from danskin. You need to purchase 2 upgrade sets to bring to the bar up to 36 pounds. This brings the price of the set up by $14 or by $28.

Also, this is modular set for use with other danskin products, such as the dumbells. These weights may not work with other dumbell maker's sets. The padded bar is comfortable and the colorful plastic weights are easy to handle and nice looking.

Overall, I use this set a lot.
