I bought this book for my husband who loves the work of Rossetti -- I found this book after scouring five different bookstores for collections and being disappointed with every other one I found.
This book has full-page prints of almost every painting he has ever done with detailed background information on the opposite page. The preface is facsinating -- it details his life as well as the evolution of his style. It is thorough and well-written; although it can't replace a complete biography on Rossetti, it comes close. It includes some of the sketches he had done as preliminary work as well.
The other books we found either reprinted his paintings as small pictures in the text (which of course limits your enjoyment and examination of them) or they only had a few of his pictures or the text was hopelessly stuffy and academic.
My husband loved the book... and so will you!

What a wonderful book - Fabulously set out with a full page print on one page and on the opposite page a description of the piece. The preface has loads of information on Rossetti - his art, life and lovers. The only thing that I would like is even more information on each piece of work although what is in the book is definitely better then most. I LOVE IT.

Fascinating look at Dante Gabriel Rossetti---the man and his paintings. His success as both poet and artist is a testament to his skillful use of intensely romantic imagery that makes his work so appealing. Founder of the Pre-Raphaelites, Rossetti painted vivid portraits based on the legends and literature of medieval themes such as the Arthurian tales, and the poetic works of Dante. There is a stunning opulence to his paintings that transports one back in time.

I recently became aware of this Pre-Rafaelite artist and decided I needed this volume. The illustrations are full-page and glorious, allowing for close examination of his techniques. The text fits well with the layout, offering just enough information to enhance the art. One "coffee table" book that is worth keeping out on display!
