Dante's Inferno "Dante" 7" Action Figure Player Select

This is just a great figure. The sculpt and details are fantastic, as we should expect from NECA. You can tell a lot of attention and detail was put into this figure, from the elaborate details on the plate mail to the small images that tells Dante's sins on the red cloth sewn to his chest. This figure just looks great! The face seems a tad dull, for someone who's going through the nine circles of hell, Dante looks tired.

ARTICULATION:

The arms seem a bit thin and maybe just a little too long, yet that's fairly unnoticeable. The articulation is fantastic, this guy can really move! His arms, wrists, and elbows are hinged ball-joints, the neck and head are ball jointed (that's right, two balls) the waist swivels, has a tight ab joint (small range), hip joints are similar to DC Universe figures or Isaac from Dead Space, allows a great range of movement, knees and ankles are ball jointed as well. The knees aren't double jointed. This figure is very pose-able compared to many NECA figure and looks great in many poses. But don't expect to recreate all the in-game poses, he isn't THAT pose-able.

ACCESSORIES:

The figure comes with death's scythe, Beatrice's cross, and an interchangeable hand. The cross fits well on the extra hand and can be carried on Dante's side just like in the game. It may look difficult to remove it at first, but the straps holding the cross can be pulled open making it fairly easy to remove without any clips. The scythe is great, the blade can be removed from the handle, (obviously packaged that way)so Dante can carry the blade alone. The handle is bendable, I'm not sure why, but at least I don't have to worry about it breaking. The red straps that hang from his wrists have small crosses hanging on the end. The straps have a lot of loose strings, which kind of bother me.

DURABILITY:

This guy already took a fall. Fell off my shelf and landed on my printer. Everything is in one piece except for the scythe, well it came apart right were it connects so really no damage done. I think that design it saved the blade from a possible break. Regardless, this figure is fairly durable, but don't chuck it at a wall.

ONE MORE THING:

Now, what I recommend to anyone who owns this or plans to get it, is to GET THAT AB JOINT TO MOVE! It actually does have some nice range but you'll need to heat up the plastic to get it moving first. Use a hair dryer or dip it in boiling water. That will loosen the joint and give you the full range and won't damage the figure. This is a great figure I recommend for any fans of the game or collectors. It's great in and out of package. I don't recommend this for children, it is based off a mature product and the figure isn't as durable as other figures. It's geared more towards adult collectors, also he has a friggin' cross sewn to his chest!

The detail of the action figure is fantastic...

Although it hasn't got so many small particles, it does break easily...

But the coloring is good and surely it reminds the owner of the game...

It may sound ironic, but god bless this figure. When I first heard about the Dante's Inferno game, I thought immediately that it would be either A: Devil May Cry rip-off OR B: A cool-looking enough game taht only loosely borrows from the Divine Comedy thusly failing the source material it attempts to live up to. For once, I am glad to say I was wrong.

This Dante figure is freakin' incredible! The character design for Dante is one of the cooler designs I've seen in a long time (because it's always guys in trenchcoats, guys in hulking armor, or guys with tattered clothes and hulking muscles) and NECA spared no expense in replicating every detail. From the tapestry in woven into the cross that is stitched into his chest, to the weathered gunmetal/pewter look of Beatrices cross (which he has a holster to put into and a special hand to hold it with), Dante just looks great. It's what we've come to expect from NECA and its series of video game based figures. He has a holster for the cross and the scythe can be mounted on his back, but you need to remove the blade section from the handle before you can do this.

That being said, I couldn't really find a way for him to comfortably wear Deaths Scythe strapped to his back. It has a wire, so its bendy, but it simply looks like it should always be drawn and ready to devour souls. Maybe it's just me. Also, I found that the blade section comes off entirely too easily. This may have just been mine, but I quickly got sick of his scythe breaking on Malebolgias swine, so I used a dab of super glue and it took care of it.

In addition to the intricate paint on the chest-cross, every other detail on Dante is painstakingly replicated. From the chain mail leftover from his time as a crusader, to the cross ribbons that wrap his forearms and end in a small cross on the end. They even did the small crosses (which i was initially afraid would be gone intantly, but he's still perfect)!

Which brings me to the next point: articulation. Worry not! Dante is as poseable as most of the figure that NECA comes out with that aren't impeded by their outfit. He can be put in a variety of poses and stands on his own very well. He's one of the best figures I picked up, and I made it a point to get him when he released. His price hasn't climbed too severely, so pick him up if you can.

My only real complaint (which has nothing to do with Dante and everything to do with NECA) is why they don't just make every figure with leg articulation. So many licenses have failed or been disappointing because of this problem (Boondock Saints, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Terminator, etc), while figures with articulation (Castlevania, Gears Of War, Assassins Creed, etc) are infinitely more appealing. The decisions that get made in regard to this boggle my mind...Seriously!

In summation: GO TO HELL! And come back with this figure!

This is of course Dante at his best!!! Neca once again nails it to the tee!!! I have not seen one figure here recently that they have not delivered the bang for your buck. This is one cool figure and I really like it!!!

I purchased this toy for my 12 year old son who loves to still play with action figures and on Christmas morning he was so happy that I had found it because it was sold out everywhere.
