4.0 out of 5 stars The First Glimmer of Greatness, November 19, 2003
This review is from: Danton: A Study (Hardcover)
This was the first serious work written by a young (early '20s) Belloc that started him on his path of literary excellence. Yes, there are a few longeurs. But this book has most of the benefits of youth (enthusiasm, boisterousness, excitement) with few of the drawbacks (incoherence, nonsense, meandering (all right, some meandering)). A warning: Belloc regards Danton as a hero, which obviously jars with his current standing. Oh well, plenty of young poppinjays admired Che and they would have been much better off with this thick bull as a poster boy.
