This shower arm extends my shower head to just the right height.

A machine screw inside each of the shower arm's two cylindrical joints must be hand tightened down into a plastic nut hidden deep inside the joint.

I initially purchased a "Danco" brand shower extension arm at a "big box" hardware store. It looked like the one in this picture and cost about $15. Big mistake. The brass was so thin in the arm that it bent on installation and a crack opened up. I returned it, and purchased this one from Amazon. This arm, made by Danze, was noticeably stronger, heavier, and well-made. It installed easily (it came with its own plumbers tape), and has been working fine.

This is a high-quality piece that provides enormous flexibility in the placement of the shower head. It's made of solid metal (not pot-metal like some cheaper substitutes) so you can really crank down on the joint tighteners to keep it positioned where you want it (even though I've got a fairly heavy hand-held shower head product attached to it).

It solved a very frustrating problem we had in being able to get the shower head positioned just right for my wife and I (with 8" of height difference between us).

Highly recommend and would buy again.

A machine screw inside each of the shower arm's two cylindrical joints must be hand tightened down into a plastic nut hidden deep inside the joint. The plastic nuts (which should have been made of stainless steel) are brittle such that they strip and crack apart immediately upon attempting to simply hand-tighten the joint enough to keep the joint sealed and prevent the joint from turning under the weight of the arm + showerhead. The result is that the product literally falls apart with no means of repair. Put simply, it does not work.

Very sad. Avoid this shower arm! If it was actually made by Danze, shame on them.

All the similar items I could find in the common home improvement stores had pipes with a diameter that restricted the water's flow. I bought one of these to try in one bathroom, and immediately bought one for my other bath. They simply work perfectly for raising the shower head in my bathrooms that appear to have been plumbed by construction dwarfs. Added bonus ... when my grandsons visit, we can even lower the shower head for the pint-sized guys. I've had them installed for about 8 months so far with no trouble.

I read the reviews on this before purchasing and noticed that most of them are by men that were too tall for their showers. Well, I have to tell you us short people need help, too. Our shower head was a foot above my head and though we had a hand held shower head it was difficult for me to reach it. I couldn't remove it from the holder much less adjust the shower settings. The plumbing must have been installed by a giant. None of the male members of the family minded the level of the shower but I had enough. The local hardware stores only had a smaller version of this and I knew it would not hold our shower head. I first looked for a new shower head that had an extender but could not find one I liked so decided to try this. Now everyone is happy. I can pull the shower head down to my level when I need it and I don't feel like the water is hitting me from the ceiling level. I can reach the shower head without stretching and possibly falling. Happy days! I installed this myself and used the pipe tape that came with it. No leaks. Works perfectly. Love it!

I bought this to replace an old adjustable arm I have. The old one moved to another bathroom. After opening the packaging, it looks promising. It has quite some weight on it. The outside diameter is larger than the old one which I bought at local store years ago. So I can only assume the inner diameter is larger too. The top nut swivel/turn independently from the arm so when tightening the arm would not be left in awkward position.

Now the bad part, once installed and turned water on, water is spilling out at the top 90 degree elbow turn. After taking it apart, I found the o-ring at that joint is tad size small. I replaced with o-ring of size 5/8" ID and 3/4" OD. And that did the trick. It is water tight all along the whole arm. The o-ring is just 30 cents.

Ad states that it is "high flow". This is an error. It is a smaller diameter than the standard 1/2 inch pipe, and reduces the pressure. Not much, but very noticeable. Also, it says it is made of chrome. This is only partly correct. The long part is chrome/metal, fitting ends are not. They are made of plastic. However, it is nice to "get out of the water" while showering (wife likes it for shaving her legs), and it is nice to have more of a direct flow of water from overhead. Still, that being said, with its shortcomings, it was hardly worth the price.

Should of listened to everyone else, put a 10-inch head on this arm and finally after getting shower completed, left to have dinner came back and head had fallen off. After inspecting the arm realized the screw that holds the arm in place snapped off. I was just happy that it didn't appear to have broke the head and especially happy it didn't break into pieces and break the glass shower walls.
