5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Made Extension Arm
I initially purchased a "Danco" brand shower extension arm at a "big box" hardware store. It looked like the one in this picture and cost about $15. Big mistake. The brass was so thin in the arm that it bent on installation and a crack opened up. I returned it, and purchased this one from Amazon. 3.0 out of 5 stars Description is deceiving, but it works...
Ad states that it is "high flow". This is an error. It is a smaller diameter than the standard 1/2 inch pipe, and reduces the pressure. Not much, but very noticeable. Also, it says it is made of chrome. This is only partly correct. The long part is chrome/metal, fitting ends are not. They are made of plastic. However, it is nice to "get out of the water" while showering...

I initially purchased a "Danco" brand shower extension arm at a "big box" hardware store. It looked like the one in this picture and cost about $15. Big mistake. The brass was so thin in the arm that it bent on installation and a crack opened up. I returned it, and purchased this one from Amazon. This arm, made by Danze, was noticeably stronger, heavier, and well-made. It installed easily (it came with its own plumbers tape), and has been working fine.

This is a high-quality piece that provides enormous flexibility in the placement of the shower head. It's made of solid metal (not pot-metal like some cheaper substitutes) so you can really crank down on the joint tighteners to keep it positioned where you want it (even though I've got a fairly heavy hand-held shower head product attached to it).

It solved a very frustrating problem we had in being able to get the shower head positioned just right for my wife and I (with 8" of height difference between us).

Highly recommend and would buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars FAR better than what I could find in the big box home improvement stores, February 12, 2010

All the similar items I could find in the common home improvement stores had pipes with a diameter that restricted the water's flow. I bought one of these to try in one bathroom, and immediately bought one for my other bath. They simply work perfectly for raising the shower head in my bathrooms that appear to have been plumbed by construction dwarfs. Added bonus ... when my grandsons visit, we can even lower the shower head for the pint-sized guys. I've had them installed for about 8 months so far with no trouble.

5.0 out of 5 stars short people need this too!, September 2, 2010

This review is from: Danze D481150 9-Inch Adjustable Shower Arm with High Flow, Chrome (Tools & Home Improvement)
I read the reviews on this before purchasing and noticed that most of them are by men that were too tall for their showers. Well, I have to tell you us short people need help, too. Our shower head was a foot above my head and though we had a hand held shower head it was difficult for me to reach it. I couldn't remove it from the holder much less adjust the shower settings. The plumbing must have been installed by a giant. None of the male members of the family minded the level of the shower but I had enough. The local hardware stores only had a smaller version of this and I knew it would not hold our shower head. I first looked for a new shower head that had an extender but could not find one I liked so decided to try this. Now everyone is happy. I can pull the shower head down to my level when I need it and I don't feel like the water is hitting me from the ceiling level. I can reach the shower head without stretching and possibly falling. Happy days! I installed this myself and used the pipe tape that came with it. No leaks. Works perfectly. Love it!

Also, it says it is made of chrome. This is only partly correct. The long part is chrome/metal, fitting ends are not. They are made of plastic. However, it is nice to "get out of the water" while showering (wife likes it for shaving her legs), and it is nice to have more of a direct flow of water from overhead. Still, that being said, with its shortcomings, it was hardly worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily Adjustable AND Holds Solidly In Place, August 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Danze D481150 9-Inch Adjustable Shower Arm with High Flow, Chrome (Tools & Home Improvement)
I highly recommend this product, it performs exactly as advertised. It is rare to find a tool that is easy to adjust by hand but still strong enough to hold in place - but this extension arm works. The two of us that use the shower have different height preferences so it gets adjusted almost daily, and it only takes a few seconds to loosen, adjust, then tighten.

Very good buy, very good value. Oh, and for anyone that is still using a showerhead that sticks out from the wall rather than getting one of these and hooking a rainfall showerhead up to it...what are you waiting for?!? Once you have a rainfall type shower, you'll never go back!!!

The shower arm has a solid feel but still has difficulty to hold the shower head in selected position. If you try to tighten the screws too much, it actually brakes the thread. Also I wish it would be longer. But anyway, I kept it because it provided the decent extension I needed.

Product is great! I'm 6"2" and have been bending over in the shower for over 30 years -- no more! I worried that being higher up would make it more likely to get water spray outside of the shower, but it doesn't really happen. For you big boys out there, buy this now!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars shower head extension arm, March 11, 2011

Great, well made product that works well. I had a little problem when I first connected it. I turned it on and it leaked from where it connected to the water pipe coming out of the wall. I needed to go to a hardware store to purchase a flat rubber washer that should have been included with the product. There is no way that the extension arm can be connected and not leak without using a rubber washer. Otherwise it works good and I would recommend it to friends with the advice that they go to get the rubber washer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but works very well, August 7, 2010
This review is from: Danze D481150 9-Inch Adjustable Shower Arm with High Flow, Chrome (Tools & Home Improvement)
I got one of these at the local hardware store to lift the showerhead higher. It works very well, with just one minor hitch. One can't really control how far one has to turn this shower arm to screw it onto the pipe coming out of the wall. Since the two pivots are in-line, the shower arm can only twist in a limited set of directions, then the showerhead general can pivot around a bit on its own, but not all shower directions wind up as possible. In a few cases, the big thumbscrews that lock down the joints can interfere with the swivel of the showerhead. Generally, however, one can point close enough to the desired direction.

Another minor flaw is probably peculiar to my case - the arm dribbles when loaded with the full water pressure. This issue only arises if one tries to shut off the water downstream from the arm near the showerhead, an unusual circumstance.

So it you want to raise (or lower) the showerhead by up to 9", this is probably your best chance to do it easily.
