This was the one that first got me into Danzig, although I have been a longtime Danzig fan. HOW THE GODS KILL is an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable bluesy-type metal set that really brings out some of Danzig's best and most electrifying material since "Mother" hit the airwaves.

The title track is one of the most passionate songs music and vocal-wise. On here, you can just feel the emotion, whether subtle or not, pouring out of Danzig and the music itself. It just bleeds to be heard, and also quite a good video too. "Godless" has music that just pumps its fist into the ear and cries for you to bang your head or do some spectacular air guitar solos. But for me, "Dirty Black Summer" with it's excellent groove and story of Glenn Danzig's childhood memories, and "Sistinas", one of the most eerie but beautiful ballad-esque songs Danzig has ever done, are some powerful statements. I think this album also builds further upon the guitar work of John Christ and the rhythm section of bassist Eerie Von and drummer Chuck Biscuits. This album sounds like a really tight collection of songs guaranteed to satisfy even the most subdued rocker in you.

HOW THE GODS KILL brought further success to Danzig, and the music really flows well on this album. Some think this album was a joke...but it's anything but a joke. If anything, this is some of Danzig's most rocking material in his career.

I'll admit it time and time again. I am very biased when it comes to Glenn Danzig and my scope of what is and is not good when concerning his music widens considerably compared to 99% of the music available today. Most of this has to do with simple fact that as wide as that scope may be, there is often no need for it.

Glenn Danzig has been at the very peak of my list of musical influences since I was a fledgling 12-year old metal fan almost 20 years ago. It's sometimes hard to believe that Danzig's music has been with me for that long and it's harder to imagine that his music dates back to my own infancy. That's quite a lot of music from the man.

What's my point? Since his first appearance in the world of music, Glenn Danzig has been in the midst of countless recordings from the early Misfits EP's to the short-lived Samhain up until the present, many of those recordings the thing of legend. Spanning his entire near-30 year career writing music, one album stands alone as his masterpiece. That album is "III: How The Gods Kill".

No other recording captures the essence, mood and diversity of Glenn Danzig's music quite the same way. If asked, I would proclaim "How The Gods Kill" every but as influential and important an album as Led Zeppelin IV, Slayer "Reign In Blood" and the first Black Sabbath albums. This is not overshadow the greatness of the prior albums or IV that followed. It's merely a matter of how everything just fit together so perfectly all at the right time as this album was being created.

"How The Gods Kill" captures every human emotion so precisely and musically, the album has a multi-faceted feel where no song seems out of place. From the rocking bluesiness of "Godless" to the sheer heaviness of the title track to the haunting beauty of "Sistanis", the flow is constant and determined, never skipping a beat.

It's never too late to experience how masterful and superb "How The Gods Kill" is, even by today's standards. There is so much greatness to be found in these 10 songs that can have a sweeping appeal to many generations of music fans, heavy metal or otherwise. You owe it to yourself to at least hear what this gem has to offer.

Danzig's third offering, entitled "How the Gods Kill", is undoubtadly the best album to come from the former Misfits and Samhain frontman. Everything that had been suggested from the previous excellent album "Lucifuge" is taken to new heights here, beginning with the opening track "Godless", and followed by the excellent "Anything"; which is possibly one of the best songs Glenn Danzig has ever written. The title track, "Left Hand Black", and "Do You Wear the Mark" are just plain awesome tracks highlighting the band's musicianship, while the classic single "Dirty Black Summer" makes it impossible for you not to bang your head. The purposely slow ballad "Sistinas" is nearly heart wrenching, and really shows off Glenn's voice. All in all, "How the Gods Kill" was the last great album to come from Danzig when he was still signed on to American Recordings, and now has never been a better time to get into the godfather of ghoul rock.

I couldnt hold my tongue any longer...any reviewer who thinks Metallicas Master of Puppets sucks and gives The Geto Boys a rave review has no frigging business anywhere near metal. This bonehead hates Bob Dylan, I guess he never took the time to read any of the lyrics to some of the old gems. Im sorry but dude just stick to reviewing rap albums and save us the negative bull****!

And I don't say that about just any album. I like all of the earlier Danzig albums (from before he fired his whole band) but this one stands out--it is one of those rare perfect albums. The lyrics are clever and often beautiful, Glenn Danzig's voice is at its absolute best (a croon/roar somewhere between Elvis, Jim Morrison, and a wailing Demon). The music itself is so much more complex and interesting than the privious two albums, and the production quality is absolutely superb. Eerie and powerful. This is one of those rare albums that I never get tired of.

I'd have to say that this is definately Danzig's best CD ever. If not this one, then probably Lucifuge. But this one has so much great singing ability from Glenn. especially in the songs, Do You Wear the Mark; Anything; Left Hand Black; Heart of the Devil and When the Dying Calls. Sistinas is a ballad, very, very dark and done in Danzig's creepy style. Lots of people love the title track, but I think there are so many other great loud, jammin' upbeat songs on this CD where John Christ's guitar and Glenn's dark, fierce singing will blow your mind. The first song, Godless, is a slow, yet very, very dark chiller. the second song, Anything, is a absolute downright vicious, smack-you-across-the-face Danzig powerjam that features some of the best damn gothic, loud, passionate singing from Glenn I've ever heard. The first time I heard this upbeat jam, I played it over and over so many times it 's insane!! John Christ's guitar on the song is loud and blistering as hell, too!! I mentioned the ballad Sistinas as another highlight on the album. Another fast, loud gothic rocker on here is Do You Wear the Mark. The CD ends with another highlight; When the Dying Calls. This has AGAIN GREAT loud, gothic singing from Glenn and more blistering guitar from John Christ-sure wish Glenn could've kept him around but, business is business I guess. Anyhow, if oyu're a Danzig fan, this is the best CD to ever buy from Danzig in my oppinion.

Basically this is one of those albums that even though is different from the traditional metal and punk style it still come out great. This album is basically a throwback, to the beginning stages of metal in the 70's, and some thrash elements from the 80's, along with some blues and some some satanic songs and you got top notch album. Glenn Danzig has a crooners voice which sounds melodic but the raspiness of his voice gives a scarier edge at times that could give a haunting voice at times.John Christ's guitarring is great from crushing, melodic riffs and great solos, almost Iommi-esque style. Chuck Biscuits drumming actually has grown on me, here he nessesarily overuses the double bass drum but he still came up with great drumming patterns. EErie Hun, bass is audible, and sometimes adds jazzy style bass licks at times.

Many songs here are dark, gothic like and satanic at points, the slow tempo of some songs are haunting and then kick up steam. Some almost feel like a thrash assault. Basically this album is hard to find one bad song, because I enjoyed the whole album, but my picks on Danzig 3 are Left Hand Black(fav track) Dirty Black Summer, Anything, Bodies, How the Gods Kill, Do you wear the Mark, Godless and Heart of the Devil. Pick this album up, ypu wont be dissapointed.

this album, Danzig III: How the Gods Kill, is one of Danzigs best albums yet along with Danzig, Danzig II: Lucifuge and Danzig 777: I Luciferi. definitly buy this album!! you will NOT regret it! it kicks sooo much @$$!!!

If this album were just one song, it would be a must have for any true Danzig fan (or metal fan for that matter).

Left Hand Black is one of most intense songs of all time. Its vocals are terrific and the actual music is flat out insipring.

Of course, their are other great songs on the album. But Left Hand Black is potentially one of the greatest songs of all time!

I don't know if I'd call this their best, but it's one of the better releases from "Danzig". A very solid album all the way through, it's a typical blues-metal (way more metal than blues) album you would expect from them. "Godless" and "Dirty Black Summer" are awesome, as well as "Heart Of The Devil" and "When The Dying Calls". This also contains the excellent creepy ballad-ish "Sistinas", one of their finest. Overall it's my favorite "Danzig" album, and the music is complemented by the cover artwork of "H.R. Giger".
