5.0 out of 5 stars Am I the Only One .......
that thinks this is Danzig's best album? I like the fact that the songs don't have all those boring solos (someone else reviewed that because they're missing is bad). It's also very hard and rocks out great, especially at loud volumes. I don't see why everyone calls this experimental. It's really not that far removed from his earlier work, but for me the songs on here...

It's also very hard and rocks out great, especially at loud volumes. I don't see why everyone calls this experimental. It's really not that far removed from his earlier work, but for me the songs on here are better written and the playing is tighter and harder. If I were to only have one Danzig album, it would be this one. Every other one (except maybe Circle of Snakes) just pales compared to this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Change is Good, August 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Danzig 4 (Audio CD)
A long time fan of Glenn Danzig, through the misfits to danzig and all around. Danzig 1&2 were a call back to stripped down blues based rock and roll-they rock-but didn't leave much room for experimenting. Danzig 3&4 adds change to this, like all musicians-one needs to try new things and expand-understandable. A bit more dramatics at times(which can be a bit silly), but also more complex melodies and structures, more creative production, and we see on Danzig 4, Glenn reeling back his need to impress us, giving way to something a bit more honest-its as if he's realized he's happy. Simply melodies on 4, with more creative production, more mature lyrics, and glipse of a certain calm/with an unsettling storm ahead. If you have any doubts, check out track one-Danzig can still beat over the head, and check out the production-very cool mix.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM!!!!!!!!, June 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Danzig 4 (Audio CD)
First off, anyone who says that this Album sounds ANYTHING like Danzig 5, is smoking crack, This album sounds nothing like Danzig 5, it sounds Awesome, Personally, I am not a fan
of 5 and I like some of 6, and 7 is cool, But 4 is my 2nd Favorite Danzig album, right behind Lucifuge. a lot of these reviews that say this is "Techno", well I don't know what album they were listening to. The only song that sounds Remotely techno is "Cantspeak" but thats just distortion over the vocals its not techno at all,

Every song is great except "Sadistikal" but thats not really a song. my Favorites are "Brand new God", "Dominion", "Bringer of Death", "I don't mind the pain", and "Stalker Song"

I even Love the Secret Song "Invocation" its so evil, Its Great.

If you like Danzig, you will like this album, If you just like "Mother" than maybe you won't. But I don't see how a True Danzig fan could not like this album, its the last one with John Christ, Eerie Von, and Chuck Biscuits, so thats kind of a drag because they were amazing.

Bottom line is BUY THIS ALBUM, and don't listen to any of those "This is TECHNO" reviews, they don't know what they are talking about, take it from a real Danzig fan. Buy it, its great.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Cantspeak., March 18, 2004

I don't understand why anybody wouldn't like "Cantspeak." It is a beautiful, dark song...some people here said it's a noise experiment that doesn't work...but it DOES WORK!! Not only that, but it is not that noisy of a track anyway, as far as noise experimentation goes.

There are a few other really great songs on here as well ("Going Down To Die," "Son Of The Morning Star," "Let it Be Captured").
I will also point out, because I feel someone should, how weird it is to suggest that a lack of a guitar solo immediately hurts a song (as at least two of the reviewers here suggest). As a guitarist who tries to pay attention to all the nuances of a song, I can say with all certainty in my mind that this is not often the case. As a matter of fact, guitar solos often hurt songs rather than help them. I think Danzig and Co. really chose tastefully which songs to include solos in and which ones not to...if anything, Danzig should be appreciated for experimenting a little. Without experimentation music would always be a redundant, empty shell of an experience. As a matter of fact, the more "metal" tracks on this album are pretty much just that because of their apparent LACK of experimentalism.
But I give it five stars for Cantspeak alone. A real gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece among Danzig albums, February 25, 2005

4p is easily one of my top 3 favorite albums by Danzig. Though not as heavy as some of the newer stuff, it's definately the pinnacle of blues metal. It's probably the most doom-ish sounding Danzig album but, that's good if you like that kind of thing. highlights on this one would be "Little Whip", "Cantspeak", "Until you Call on the Dark", "Sadistikal", and my personal favorite "Bringer of Death".

5.0 out of 5 stars Took a few listens but now I love it!, June 4, 2009
This review is from: Danzig 4 (Audio CD)
I have had all the other Danzig albums for years now and all are strong favourites amongst my music collection, so finally got my hands in Danzig IV and cant believe I went without for so long! Took maybe 4 - 5 plays of the album to get a feel for it but now it is up there with Danzig I to III, love them all, and this is no exception. Seems maybe a bit smoother / mellower than I to III, but still some good hard rocking Danzig in there, some great riffs and lyrics and very catchy too - i get the songs stuck in my head for days afterwards - and thats not a bad thing! Favourites are Dominion and Son of the Morning Star, but all songs are awesome (excpet Sadistikal...WTF). Definetly get this album if you already like early Danzig albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars its worth a spin..., December 14, 2006
This review is from: Danzig 4 (Audio CD)
get this last...start with danzig 2 then get 1 and 3...buy this last if you like the others. i like this one the least buts its still ok. 4 stars is a compliment really. with tracks 13-65 being nothing but dead air time seems kind of pointless just so the final read on your cd plaer will read like this 66 (for track 66) and the time is 61 minutes and 38 seconds. so ur cd player sais this 66 61:38. 666 mark of the beast? and 138 his misfits song? coincidence? i dont see how it could be.

4.0 out of 5 stars The beginning of Danzig's experimental phase, September 11, 2004
This review is from: Danzig 4 (Audio CD)
The fourth album from the former Misfits and Samhain singer was the last to feature the classic Danzig lineup: guitarist John Christ, drummer Chuck Biscuits, and bassist Eerie Von were all shuffled out the door afterward before the recording of Danzig's much criticized fifth album "Blackacidevil". That said, "4" signaled the significant changes to come, finding Danzig becoming more experimental with song structures and distorted vocals, but not grasping the full on techno-esque beats to come in later albums. Opener "Brand New God" is a great way to kick off the album, and other tracks like "Little Whip", "Cantspeak", and "I Don't Mind the Pain" are solid, but when compared to Danzig's first three albums ("Lucifuge" and "How the Gods Kill" specifically), "4" is a bit of a letdown. That aside though, this is still a great disc, and much better than "Blackacidevil".

not as good as the other three!yup, but still some quality stuff here.the album is darker than the others, more experimental in the compositions, some industrial sounds thrown in the mix that irritates a bit and very few solos.it starts with
1 brand new god:agressive song, but very flat, nothing in comparation with previus danzig album openers,no solo
2little whip:good dark and powerfull song but not excellent,no solos, but still ok
3cantspeak:Can't speak anything good about this one!!!,dull experimental song with some industrial noise, boring and no solos!
4going down to die:Good ballad,good solo,classic Danzig sound=GREAT!
5 until you call on the dark:it start with a promising riff and a good line but the chorus is not that great,no solos, some industrial sound added for make a bit more interesting but it doesn't work, and is boring too!
6 dominion:gothic and mid-tempo song another quite boring song,it's got a solo but it doesn't help it a lot
7 bringer of death:good song,with some industrial touches,nice guitar work,ah,is a hard rocker,live should be killer
8 sadistikal:is not really a song, ambiental stuff and dark of course and again, boring
9 son of the morning star:experimental song, again a mid tempo and is boring again!,no solos
10 I don'mind the pain:experimental,no solos, boring but with more life in it but still average
11 great sing-along chorus, good guitar work,no solos, this song would have been better with a good solo thrown in the middle instead there's some good but monotonus riffing, still a good song
12 let it be capture:kind of cool song, good singing, sometimes can't get enough of it and sometimes i've had enough of it!,no solos,it doesn't need it anyway
then there are 53 3 seconds songs,(a bit of an irritating thing!) in the middle to get to song
66 the hidden song or bastard as i call it,for obvious reasons.....the song is like some priests(all of them Glenn Danzig!!!) singing in gregorian style or something like that,I don't understand it very well but I'm sure is EVIL!!!!!!!
