Biography

When Danzig, the band, grew out of the Misfits/Samhain lineage in 1987, Glenn Danzig went into the new project with even grander ambitions and a long-term design. His vision included a seven-album arc, each one meant to, in Glenn’s own words, “stand the test of time.” There is no doubt that Danzig, the man and the band, have done just that.
Long into the future we will all be gone, but certain… Read more in Amazon's Danzig Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from DANZIG, November 11, 2009

This review is from: Danzig 3: How the Gods Kill (Reis) (Audio CD)
Basically, Danzig 1-4 are all amazing. Each album offers something different, and D3 is no exception. While D1 brought evil greaser tough guy rock to life, and D2 led us down the swampy/bluesy road to the devils den, D3 brings us into the stained glass castle from hell. His most gothic album for sure. Perhaps his most mature and impeccable approach to recording an album to date, D3 showcases a rock-solid tight band with great song writing to back it up. There isn't a bad song on the album! Get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw metal, February 21, 2010
By
This review is from: Danzig 3: How the Gods Kill (Reis) (Audio CD)
Danzig III is possibly the heaviest of the band's first four records, clearly a metal record and marking a welcome return from the heavily blues-influenced Danzig II.

Things begin with "Godless", a strong opener with noticeable thrash and doom elements. "Anything" and "Bodies" are both solid but the next three songs highlight the album. "How The Gods Kill" begins as a ballad but gradually builds to a dramatic ending, "Dirty Black Summer" features the record's anthemic riff, and "Left Hand Black" picks up the speed for you to bang your head to. "Sistinas" is a beautiful, haunting ballad that showcases Glenn Danzig's trademark vocal style.

John Christ and Chuck Biscuits both shine on this record. The guitar tone is raw and aggressive and Christ plays many soaring, electrifying solos. Biscuits pounds the drums with impressive ferocity. The album is filled with chugging, thrashy riffs, squealing pinched harmonics, and crashing cymbals. Blues themes are used sparingly and do not detract from the overall mood of the record. I am not sure why III has developed a reputation as Danzig's "gothic" album, since dark romanticism, desolation, and occult and religious imagery characterize much of the band's work. This is a metal record through and through.

If I could give this 4.5 stars I would, but I am rounding up to 5 stars for the album's attitude and consistency. There are no bad songs on this record. It is a must have for Danzig fans and even casual listeners will find much to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danzig at their best, December 29, 2011

Danzig 1 through 4 are all 5 star releases in my book. Great, great music...but I would have to put this one as my favorite. Great production with crunchy riffs and squealing solos compliment the soulful vocals and deadly songwriting. Every song is a winner. This is the perfect blend of the raw, bluesy, and experimental sides to Danzig.
