A must-have for the hardcore "DANZIG" fan!,
By fiend@tvcasualty.com (the New England area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Danzig [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Possibly the most often-watched video in my entire collection,"DANZIG" contains several videos for tracks from the first album and arguably some of the best "early" Danzig video out there that's been professionally shot. Highlights include: Glenn talking briefly about his religous views, drummer Chuck Biscuits grunting through a few words with the narrator, guitarist John Christ showing off his favorite axe, all while the band's bassist, Eerie Von, simply wants to be left alone. At a meager 40 minutes running time, I was left wanting more, but hey.. 40 minutes are better than none! My suggestion? Get this piece before it's gone - God only knows I've had a HELL of a time trying to get a new copy.

This has the first cuts of music videos from the first album, none of which I'm sure ever got played by crappy MTV. The videos are for Am I Demon, Twist of Cain, Mother, She Rides, and a tiny bit of live footage of When Death Had No Name. There are also interviews with the original lineup of Glenn, John, Eerie, and Chuck. If there is something wrong it's the length, but they would've had to do a video for every song, which they wouldn't do, and there's a little bit of that late eigthies/early ninties cheesiness in the videos. Definately get this if you're a Danzig fan

Danzig: The Inside Story,

This is a fun little video I've watched a time or two over the years, and it still entertains. The three stars are for the music/videos mostly. The videos are pretty cool. Corny as hell, but cool. The thing that bugs me about this are the scenes with Glenn. If you ever needed proof as to the authenticity of his arrogance, look no further. It's obvious that he scripted his own interviews. He's a jerk to the interviewer, just check out the scene where he's reading a Wolverine comic. It just comes across as though he's going out of his way to push his tough guy image coz he knows he's being filmed. One backstage scene has him ranting about how he's gonna get some guy to make him a "steel fist"-a nifty metal doodad that you can wear as a kind of metal glove-so he can dislocate a jaw if he punches someone. Too bad he didn't have this handy toy in Tuba City. The other band members are allowed about a minute or less of screen time for themselves just to remind the viewer that there are three other members of the band Danzig. Chuck will startle and amaze as he proves that a fantastic drummer can be 100% brain dead. Eerie lives up to his name, yet he's actually funny(unintentionally) and would probably be fun to hang around with. John is the coolest of the bunch. He isn't arrogant, angry or an idiot. He seems like a really cool guy, I wish Glenn allowed him to speak more. But even with all my Glenn slamming, I highly recommend this tape(I'll buy it if it comes out on dvd). It's extremely entertaining, even if it's not always for the right reasons.

Intense, melancholy, eerie, powerful entertainment fare...,

Truly, a masterwork of musical metal morbidity. We are taken on the road with Danzig & the guys, & shown aesthetically pleasing videos, too. I appreaciate the attention payed to arcane & esoteric subjects herein. TWIST OF CAIN begins us off as the first recorded murder. The mood is omnious as four figures clad in black, shadow the stage, appearing from apparently nowhere, amidst the tolling of deep bells. Suddenly, the music grinds, & the whole place is energized with a supernatural furvor. Then we are treated to AM I DEMON, a hard, pounding composition, pondering the question every Satanist pondered at one point or another. The answer is YES. If you honestly adhere to the Satanic philosophy, & just knew you were different all your life from the commoners, then it is most likely affirmative. Let the proles gawk & marvel. Glen dons a goat-head, & is crucified, with a beautiful female pawing his body. I suppose this signifies the undue persecution The Devil has received from the very ones He keeps in business---the xians {The Ninth Satanic Statement}. SHE RIDES is a pleaser, with a gorgeous, ripe, voluptuous, incredibly pale redhead contorting like a snake in her mesmerizing movements, to the bump & grind type drumming. Then there's the infamous MOTHER. The cantible banned from MTV, & criticised by the PMRC for being "sexist" & violent. Sex & death? You know it must be good! This is a really great video. Despite the useless bloodletting of that chicken. The question remains whether or not it was real. The blood anoints the naked body of a beautiful maiden, who lays stretched out across a blood-stained altar. Quite a show, indeed! Several other female sheep huddle together in fear, as the shadow of an inverted cross covers them. Glen stands within a pentagram, & well, you'll just have to see it for yourself. The rest of the video is comprised of interviews, backstage scenes, & an interesting perusal into Glen's library. This video is a definite collector's item & should be in every Satanist's collection who enjoys dark, brooding music. It is also a good idea to get Lucifuge-The Video, & Danzig Live-The Devil In Disguise.

Everything you could possibly want from a Danzig video : All the videos from the first album, Glenn actually smiling, Glenn tryna act tough while reading a Wolverine comic, Glenn flexing and pointing, live footage, backstage footage, Eerie embarrassing himself while attempting to be weird and moody, hot and incredibly stupid 80s rock chick groupies in gawdy make-up and spandex with awful teased perms who the band probably used as toilets, other hot semi-naked rock chicks gyrating in the videos, laughable satanic mythology, Chuck Biscuits coming across as the dumbest man on the planet (hey, nice drawings though, Chuck!) and yet more Glenn flexing and pointing and talking about metal gloves he could use to shatter potential opponents jaws (like you could ever reach anyones jaw without aid of a ladder anyway, Glenn). The unintentional comedy factor is off the charts on this one, the music is, as you know, amazing and it's a fascinating insight into the hardcore/rock god idiot savant auteur that you can't help but love (no homo!) that is Glenn Danzig. This and the "archive de la morte" dvd are essential for the Danzig enthusiast.

I love to watch this guy perform, he is so powerful from his deep seductive voice to his wonderfully hard body. I just want to know where has he been for the last 5 years? I wished he'd come out of hiding to show of his latest.

If you're a Danzig fan, pick this up. It's only 40 minutes long but well worth the money. It's too bad that MTV doesn't play this kind of stuff anymore. Maybe if they still did, people wouldn't consider this "cheesy". Maybe a little dated by today's standards, but not "cheesy". It's too bad that Lucifuge isn't so easy to find. Maybe it will be re-released or something. Oh well, this one rocks.
