5.0 out of 5 stars Afro Cuban music at it's best!
Arturo truly captures the fire an passion of Afro Cubano music in this album. From trak one, he produces a sound and feel of a latin street festival. The tribute to his grandfather (A Mis Abuelos) begins with a beautiful melody and then erupts into a big jazz sound that makes you want to salsa! This album will take you there and bring you back after having the time of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Only a couple of cuts on this CD really grooved me. The merging of jazz and Latin is my cup of tea (or substitute a beverage of your own), but I was disappointed in this, especially after seeing the 5-star reviews. I was suspicious from the beginning, with the sappy elevator-music first cut. And, in a rreal jazz band, more than the leader, or one person solos. Here, more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 10, 1999

This review is from: Danzon (Dance On) (Audio CD)
This album is a masterpiece. The interplay of melody and rhythm is beautiful. I cannot listen to it without getting up and dancing all over my house! Arturo's tone is fat and sweet and gives me chills to listen too. He is a fine musician and I think this album is a must-have for any serious latin jazz lover. Go for it!!!!!

I was suspicious from the beginning, with the sappy elevator-music first cut. And, in a rreal jazz band, more than the leader, or one person solos. Here, more than one solo[d, but not enough. Too arranged. I kept wanting to hear an instrumental voice break out from the assembled mass, but rarely did. Maybe Sandoval should have let someone else produce this--it seems too self-centered, including all the old-fashioned posed photos of him in the small brochure included with the CD. Oh, the percussion was tops sthroughout--but even then, more solos!

5.0 out of 5 stars Master, virtuoso, genius, captivating, Arturo encapsulated, May 21, 2003

This review is from: Danzon (Dance On) (Audio CD)
If you like Latin Jazz you will love Danzon. High energy and pure technical genius establishes this recording as a classic. Coconut Groove is a perfect example of the master technician, Arturo, in action. The speed and accuracy at which Arturo plays is simply put, amazing. Aside from Gabriel's last blast before Christ returns, Arturo's trumpet is is the one this trumpet lover loves to hear
