5.0 out of 5 stars Dap Cap is an ideal caulking trowel
For the price, Dap's "Dap Cap" is the best caulking trowel around that I've found. It's best suited for indoor applications-- kitchen/shower/tub, ideally. It will take up to a 5/16" bead and even it out far better than I have ever been able to do with my finger or any other trowel. 3.0 out of 5 stars No better than a finger
I thought this might perform better than the good old wet finger, but it doesn't. In fact, I found my finger works even better. I also found the "cap" is no better than the small cap that comes with the caulk. Perhaps people with very large fingers will find this helpful, but I tossed mine in the garbage.

This is a handy tool to use when caulking. My only complaint is that the product is flimsy so it will break. I would recommend this product to the beginning caulker.

I bought one before ever using caulk or a caulking gun. I give it five stars as a cap for a used tube of caulk but one star for smoothing since it's a poor substitute for your wet finger. It left gaps on one side or the other regardless of how you use the tool. You really need to get the caulk bead smoothed right the first time.

You will become an expert very quickly. Just practice with some inside edges a few times first until you get the basic idea. Be sure to keep your index finger wet, lay down a thick enough bead of caulk, and use one long steady stroke to smooth the bead from end to end or corner to corner. You can rewet your finger and touchup but you'll probably have to redo the whole length in a single stroke.

This is a totally useless piece of cheap plastic that cannot even in its wildest dreams provide a decent caulk bead. Your finger is far superior to this loser. It works OK as a cap. So does a large wire nut at nowhere near the cost of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great item, December 13, 2008
This review is from: Dap 18570 Dap Cap Caulk Finishing Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
For as simple as this is, it is the best caulk/grout finishing tool that I have ever used...and I am a "gadget queen"!! Unfortunately, after quite a bit of use, it finally cracked and broke. The only problem has been finding a replacement. Thanks for offering it here.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Cap, Not a good Finishing Tool, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Dap 18570 Dap Cap Caulk Finishing Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a cap, this Dap Cap is just okay. It does close the open caulk tubes to prevent air from getting in, but there are other caps on the market that provide a tighter, more secure fit. 2 stars for the cap end.

As a Finishing Tool, I wouldn't recommend this tool. You would be better off using your finger in a plastic bag or directly beading the caulk. You usually want to go over the caulk just once, but with this tool, you'll find yourself going over the caulk three or four times. The finishing tool end feels like thin, cheap plastic, although it is bendable. 2 stars for the finishing tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great product from DAP., January 23, 2012

Truthfully, I am not sure why there is such low ratings on this product, this is a fantastic tool. Made in USA and is reusable as well. I'll admit, the cap end is what I purchased this item for, but I've used the tool end as well and have had a great deal of success. This is much more cost effective than using tape and a significant time saver than using a galvanized screw. I've used this tool when I've done roof work and general remolding as well.

When it comes to caulking, I typically reach for my DAP brand caulk, as not only is most DAP Caulk made in USA, but they are the most cost effective, but they also produce the greatest results. I have found the same with this DAP Cap. I know several contractors (some having 40 years of experience) who use this product and it was one of them who told me about this product. I can't say this about every item I've bought in my lifetime, but this is an exceptional product that functions as tool and cap.

I strongly recommend this product, this has saved me a great deal of money and really does a nice job preventing any caulk from drying up.

This review is from: Dap 18570 Dap Cap Caulk Finishing Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product is not good for applying caulk to a surface, but it works wells, if youw want to use this as a cap, not really worth the price, not unless you have exrtra money to spend.
