Like everyone else out there.... looking to put phosphates back into my detergents! My dishwasher works again! Will probably add a little to washer seeing how I have it. My sons greasy work clothes will be cleaner too! Cheap enough. Shouldnt have to buy it to make soap work though.... soap should work when you buy it... but... it doesnt anymore.

Before 1993, detergents for dish and clothes washers contained phosphates, which were excellent for cleaning. There was some belief that these were causing green blooms in our waterways, so they were removed and replaced with less effective components in our detergents. While I haven't really closely examined the algae bloom thing and whether residential use of phosphates really contributed to that problem, none of the current cleaning products contain the superior phosphates in them.

But you can solve that problem for your own household! I add about a teaspoon of this in the dishwasher detergent cup in addition to the regular tablet, and for really big dirty loads it cleans them better than any other product I've tried. In fact, when I run out of the expensive tablets I'm going to switch to the cheaper liquid products and combine those with the trisodium phosphate cleaner. I'll save about $80-100 a year.

I also add 1/8 cup or so to my regular detergent when washing a stained or really dirty load of clothes in my HE machine. Same thing here, I'm switching from an expensive liquid detergent to a cheap but good quality powder and I'm going to add the phosphate to that as well. That'll save me closer to $200 a year.

Do make sure to put the detergent and TSP in first, fill the machine with water and then add clothes, as you should even with regular detergent to reduce fading/spotting.

I had been buying Finish tablets and Tide, but the cheapest cleaners plus TSP give better results. I just bought three humongous boxes of a high rated powder for $13 each, plus a big box of TSP, and that'll handle my laundry needs for about 3 years.

Does a nice job of cleaning scale and stains out of your machines as well.

Delivered on time and does great job in my dishwasher. Dishes come clean for the first time in a while and I use about 60% less dishwashing liquid in my machine than before. I will order the larger box next time.
Alas, my building's use of so called high efficiency clothes washers means that water is used so sparingly that no detergent or additive will get clothes as clean as my dishes now are. The new washers basically spritz the clothes and toss them around. Clothes will not get clean doing that -esp so with today's government mandated watered down detergents. As a laundry additive I will save my TSP for those occasions when I have use of a top loader. I have not had the opportunity to do that yet so have nothing to report.

A year ago, we noticed that our dish washer was failing to clean dishes, and failing to drain. We would wash a load twice and end up just washing dishes by hand that came out dirty from the dish washer. I cleaned the traps and filters out and still no luck. We also noticed that the Procter & Gamble Cascade liquid dish soap we were using was crystalizing right in its container. We called P&G and they told us that a shipment froze and recommended that we buy some gel pack things to put in the dishwasher in addition to the liquid soap! Why would I need more products to put in my dish washer that I never needed before, just to get satisfactory results??? Then they sent us some coupons for more of their junk product. I knew something was up...

After doing some research, I learned that NY was one of the liberal-weenie states that banned Tri Sodium Phosphate in cleaning products. TSP is what cleans dishes! NY knows this, so they "allowed" restaurants to use the product to clean their dishes for a bit longer than the commoner (me). So as it turned out, P&G was well aware that they had to change their formula to comply with the ban, but rather than being honest with the consumer, they chose to make lame excuses as to why their product doesn't work- AND they try to sell you more junk to add to your dishwasher that shouldn't be needed in the first place. With nearly $84 Billion dollars in sales, one would think they could have stood up to the lame NY government and their ban on STP, but they try to profit even more off of it at our expense.

So, after doing some research here, among other places: (copy/paste to your browser)

I was forced to purchase this TSP cleaner from a Free State and use it in my dish washer.

I was skeptical at first... but when I have dishes that need a little extra help (ie when the kids don't pre-scrub). Sometimes there is an extra film, and other times it brings my class pans back to life.... it's a cheap alternative to have just in case... and at 1/4 to 1/2 tsp added to the washer before it starts... it works.

This powder works great, just be sure you use it on the right application. Read the directions! I used it with great success to remove the wallpaper paste residue after I stripped the paper. It worked like a charm. I applied it with one of those microfiber cleaning cloths that I can't live without, and in about 30 seconds of smushing it around, I could feel the paste turning slimy. With a bucket of clean water for rinsing (change often), I rinsed off the stuff and it left the wall whistle clean!! I specified the microfiber cleaning cloth, because it works so much better than a big sponge. I wanted to really wet the wall with the stuff, and the sponge dripped down, but the microfiber cloth held the water, making it much less messy. I've become a huge fan of these cloths for many reasons.

Anyway, the TSP has a lot of great applications, but I would never use it on anything that could get 'etched', like glass or shiny metal, because this stuff will do that. For cleaning and stripping before applying paint, it is great. I had marks on my walls that I thought would never come out, but this stuff did the trick.
