Contains 2 tales with both the original classical Greek texts and pleasing English translations.

DAPHNIS AND CHLOE.
Idyllic classical Greek pastoral love story which served to inspire many future works of literature, music, painting, and cinema, not to mention utopian primitive social experiments. Setting on the Greek island of Lesbos off the Turkish coast, featuring herdsmen and their Arcadian deities, specifically 2 well-born urban youngsters abandoned to be raised as enslaved primitive peasants marked by protective gods to fall in love with each other. An over-civilized city-dweller's nostalgic fantasy.

ANTHIA AND HABROCOMES.
Adventurous love story featuring the 2 most beautiful people in the world striving to reunite with one another depite many far-flung obstacles, natural, man-made, and divine. Set in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

Format: Hardcover
This presentation of Daphnis and Chloe, by Longus, and Anthia and Habrocomes, by Xenophon of Ephesus is solid. Henderson offers balanced introductions and clear, simple translations to match a clear, simple text. I can't say I was incredibly impressed by the actual content of these stories, but it isn't Loeb's job to write great classical literature.
