I got just about everything from Daptone, and this is a mighty fine
collection from the label that bring you soul and funk that's so
juicy it GOT TO be squeezed!
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings takes centre stage with seven songs, and you
get modern soul/funk classics such as "How long do I have to wait for you",
"Got a thing on my mind" and "Stranded in your love".
Sharon Jones! WHAT A WOMAN! The Dap-Kings! WHAT A BAND!
Miss Jones is a masterful soul vocalist with impeccable control, and she
got that raw, sweet gospel-trained voice that hit you somewhere deep.
This mama is cookin' with ease!

Some tracks are on CD for the first time, and amongst them you'll find
fantastic songs from Charles Bradley, Binky Griptite, Sharon Jones and
Lee Fields. Other outstanding songs by Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens
and Menahan Street Band makes this an essential buy for funk, soul and
groove merchants.
The only thing I hold against it, is that I would have choosen other
titles by The Budos Band. I think songs like "Origin of man", "T.I.B.W.F"
and "Aynotchesh Yererfu" are a lot stronger than the ones picked here.
You could say the same about a couple of the Dap-Kings tracks, but
that's minor criticism, because this is a regular goldmine, so you could
just as well shoot cotton bullets at the moon.

If you are unfamiliar with Daptone, and for some strange reason find it
hard to trust a man who entitles himself Dr. Funk Alligatoor(heh heh!),
here are some other stuff I love: James Brown, Fela Kuti, John Lee
Hooker, Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Pavement, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Beck, The
Wu-Tang Clan, Bill Callahan and Nick Cave.

Well, if that didn't make it easier your taste is too expensive to repair!

If you're trying to get "back" in to the groove of Soul Music and don't know where to start, this is it. Daptone gets it with the sounds, vocals and mix of artists featured on this compilation...and the best part of it - being a fellow Brooklynite, is they're doin' it to death...in Brooklyn! The compilation features amongst many other artists, the incredible vocal stylings of Brooklyn's Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and the afro-funky beat of Brooklyn's Antibalas Orchestra, both tops in the music they are putting out there.

Buy it, enjoy it and watch it form a place forever in your musical repertoire.

This sampling of music from Daptone Records gives me hope for modern popular music. Real musicians playing real instruments together. What a concept!

I have loved every song I have heard from this label and this album is no exception.

Discovered Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at the 2009 Green River Festival - awesome! This CD contains songs from them and other Dap-Tone artists. All great. I also liked the gospel sounds of Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens, too.

It was everything I expected: a solid sampling of the music that the artists from the Daptone label have to offer.

This is a ok mix of soul music it's like eating a bowl of cereal your still hungry after your finished there are some great performances mixed with some not so good.
