Cardinal Lustiger, who was born of Polish Jewish parentage, converted to Catholicism as a young man and became Archbishop of Paris in 1981. He has a fresh, optimistic outlook on life. The interviews in this collection treat his early life, his views on Jewish-Christian relations and on Israel, and his role as bishop, while the addresses deal with such topics as parish life, the beatitudes, belief in God, and the religious situation in France. There are homilies on the priesthood, marriage, and vocations as well. Catholics will be especially interested in this book, but others will find Lustiger's direct, down-to-earth approach refreshing.
