5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book
I find it surprising that no one has reviewed this book yet.
I picked this up while I was on vacation, and of course I had numerous past wrongs that were stewing in the back of my mind (as we all do).

3.0 out of 5 stars Encompasses All Needs
This book can help evolve the hardened heart. Chapters include Hallowell's client stories and general advice. I would recommend reading only the chapter designed to cope with your specific "need to forgive."

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Dare to Forgive: The Power of Letting Go and Moving On (Paperback)
I find it surprising that no one has reviewed this book yet.
I picked this up while I was on vacation, and of course I had numerous past wrongs that were stewing in the back of my mind (as we all do).

This book is down to earth and written in an easy style. I thought I could never forgive some people that had wronged me "based on principle" and that I was not "a forgiving person". This book really helped me to think about my anger in a new way and gave good reasons for forgiving (continuing to be angry only hurts your life).

This book is interwoven with lots of personal stories (including the authors) which I found really helpful. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent, uplifting, healing & life-transforming book!, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Dare to Forgive: The Power of Letting Go and Moving On (Paperback)
"Dare to Forgive" is a healing book. It shares real stories of business people who were falsely accused, blamed for things that weren't their fault, political candidates whose words were miscontrued, plus incest and rape survivors, and other real life examples.

When you read this book, you quickly realize that you're not alone. Many people are innocent victims who did nothing to deserve the wrongs against them. As you read this book, you feel angry, but you'll also laugh until your face is red. You'll be drawn in, and want to keep reading until the very last page. Honestly, this book is a masterpiece, worth far more than the cover price or what you pay for it.

Dr. Halliwell is a Harvard-educated psychiatrist, but he develops his concept of forgiveness from unlikely sources, like taxi cab drivers. One of Dr. Halliwell's personal stories is about losing a parking place to a BMW, and getting so angry that he jumped on top of the car and pounded his fists until they moved. There is a wide spectrum of emotions and experiences in this book-- lots of surprises, jolts, twists and turns.

One my favorite parts of the book was Dr Halliwell's story about Josselyn, his cousin. Evidently, Dr Halliwell was once so angry with her that he vowed never to speak to her again. He also revisits the house that he grew up in, where he had been physically abused, and makes peace with his past. "Dare to Forgive" reveals a strategy for forgiveness, but its the personal stories that brings the message home. It takes courage to forgive, and this book will help you find that strength to let go and move on with your life. Highly recommended, rewarding and satisfying, 5 stars book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ned never disappoints!, July 13, 2007

This review is from: Dare to Forgive: The Power of Letting Go and Moving On (Paperback)
I've only just started this book, so I can't in all fairness give it a 5 until I finish! However, I can already tell that "Dare to Forgive" will occupy a high place on my favorites list along with all of Ned's other books.I feel like I can call him Ned after reading so many of his books -- I feel like he's an old friend. That's the best part of his books -- his style is so engaging, he really leaves you feel like an old friend is talking to you, giving advice from the heart. If you need to learn to forgive someone, or yourself, and want gentle, friendly guidance, this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mom of teenager, November 12, 2008
This review is from: Dare to Forgive: The Power of Letting Go and Moving On (Paperback)
I bought this for my 17 year old son and then read it myself. I think it will help heal some issues between him and his Dad and biological Mom.
