5.0 out of 5 stars Content Even an Eagle Scout Can Relish!!!
If you thought you learned about survival in the Boy Scouts, be prepared for an eye opener. I happened upon this book in an unlikely location, and am very glad I did. From preparation to terrorist attacks, to dysfuctioning electrical grids, to downright cold weather, this book has something for everyone who wants to be prepared for the unexpected.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid but not great
This is a solid introduction to disaster preparedness written by someone who walks the walk. There is a lot of information in this book that is helpful but it defiantly has its downfalls. My 2010 edition has a lot of typographical errors and many formatting issues. While that does not detract from information presented it does create confusion at times. May of the...

I cannot and will not divulge all of the "secret" coded information in this volume, but when you see all that is included, you will consider the purchase price cheap by all accounts.

My 2nd edition is dated 2005, One can only hope that this book is updated, say, every 18 months or so. I'll buy each--and prior to seeing it, thought I was fairly well informed. Well, this book will save you much time gathering information!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Information for Americans since 911, October 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Dare to Prepare (Perfect Paperback)
This book was well researched and covers a lot of things most of us never think about from day to day. With increasing threats of food, power and water shortages from terrorist attacks inside the continental US, and with increasingly bad weather from an almost permanent El Nino status in the Pacific Ocean, this book is essential information for enduring the changes in our way of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covering a vast array of emergencies from tornadoes to hurricanes, January 9, 2010
This review is from: Dare to Prepare! (Paperback)
From the Boy Scout slogan of 'Be Prepared' to contemporary survivalist manifestos warning of the need to anticipate and deal with potential disasters of all kinds, the common thread is that bad things can and will happen, and the best way to survive them is to prepare contingency measures accordingly. That's the philosophical basis for Holly Drennan Deyo's "Dare to Prepare!" massive 624-page, profusely illustrated compendium of advice and instruction on how individuals and families can determine what supplies and resources will need to be accessibly stored to weather any and all disasters ranging from the natural to the man-made. More than just a collection of survivalist-oriented acquisition lists and now in a significantly expanded and thoroughly updated third edition, "Dare to Prepare!" covers everything from water issues, foods and food storage, finances, general basic supplies, first aid, the shelf life of various non-food items, underground storage, building a hand-pump, soap and candle making, gardening, generators, cooking without power, cooking with solar power, communications, sanitation, and so much more. Of special note are the chapters dedicated to pets, firearms, and the aftermath of a nuclear war. Covering a vast array of emergencies from tornadoes to hurricanes, to floods, volcanoes, and severe winter storms, "Dare to Prepare!" will prove to be an invaluable resource to be kept permanently at hand as an instructional reference and resource that no family or community library should be without.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid but not great, September 3, 2010

This review is from: Dare to Prepare! (Paperback)
May of the charts that could be very useful were rendered extremely confusing until you figured out what they are supposed to say. Much of the information in this book can be found on the internet for free by reading some of the LDS preparedness material, but the book did bring up some points that I had not thought of previously. All in all, this book is pretty good, but the price tag of $48 that I paid was not worth it. Save some money and read up on the internet instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dare To Prepare, June 20, 2010

This review is from: Dare to Prepare! (Paperback)
With more than twenty years of military experience traveling all over the world to man-made and natural disasters areas, this book is one of the best written and researched one stop reference book I have ever encountered for preparing a home and family for a disaster. It's a MUST have item for every home and family who want to prepare for a "what-if" situation that may arise. Remember you are the only person you can rely on following a disaster, local, state and federal agencies may be stretched thin responding to others, and my not be able to get to you and your family for some time. Remember the Boy Scout Motto..."Be Prepared".

This review is from: Dare to Prepare (Perfect Paperback)
Of all the survival/preparedness books I have read, this one is in the top three for completeness and depth of information. It is packed solid with useful information. If you go to standeyo dot com , you should get about the best price for the book. The book is very thorough and seems to be a polished version of the first version of this title. A well indexed, well organized 500+ page wealth of information.... I feel I got my monies worth.
