About the Brand

Dare Foods, a family-owned company, operates seven bakery plants in Canada and the United States. The company traces its roots all the way back to 1892, when Charles H. Doerr produced and sold cookies and candies from his small Ontario grocery store. Both the family and company names were changed to Dare in 1945. The company now makes cookies, crackers, and melba toast under the Bremner, Breton, Dare, and Grissol brands. Dare also bakes cookies for Canada's Girl Guides. Its Real Fruit and Juiced Up candy brands include gummies, hard candies, jelly beans, and mints.

In 2004, in response to growing consumer concerns over nut-based food allergies, Dare became one of North America's first major food manufacturers to declare all of its manufacturing facilities "peanut free." Their products are currently sold throughout North America, Central America, Europe, and the Far East.

A piece of heaven disguised as cookies. The only cookie that comes anywhere close is a Malomare. It's still like comparing a Rolls Royce to a VW Beatle. Once you've had a Whippet - you'll never go back!

I bought these as a substitute for Mallomars based on reviews from other Amazon customers - if anything, these are even better than I expected. Rich chocolate shell over yummy marshmallow set on graham cracker cookie. The only negative is that some cookies in each box arrive broken because of rough handling in transit - but they still taste great.

We saw a show on PBS about the making of Whippet cookies and just had to try them. Couldn't find them in the US, but did order a case from Canada. THEY ARE WONDERFUL!

I bought a box ( of 12 boxes, I guess that is only shipment that Amazon can send of these cookies ) of these cookies 2 weeks from Amaaon and guess what, NOW THEY"RE ALL GONE! I think I ate 3 boxes of thse cookies and gave the rest away and sold a few. My impression overall of these cookies is that they are very, very well made, the chocolate alone is decandent, the shell is crisp but can be crispier, but they DEFINITELY add TOO MUCH SUGAR IN THESE COOKIES and for that rason I prefer Mallomars to these cookies, which are the closest cookies in comparison to these. Mallomars look like Whippets and but they have a crispier shell, the chocolate is not as good cos it's not so rich and dark, but the cookie base is more solid and the marshmallow is not so sugary. When you eat a Whippet the overall first taste you experience on your palette is a rush of sugar, but with Mallomars you taste the marshmallowy goodness with the sugar.
Pinwheels, a marshmallow cookie that is larger, richer, darker and better overall than both Whippets and Mallomars, have a chocolate coating that is not as good as Whippets but the cookie baase is chocolate, it is more solid and the marshmallow is understated. I don't know if in Montreal, Quebec or wherever in Quebec they love these cookies ( on the package it says they are " Quebec's favorite cookie! ) they LOVE SUGAR but overally my impression is good of these, they defintely did grow on me after I eat maybe two boxes, but I will never buy them again, not one package and definitely not 12, they are just way to sugary for me since my local grocery stores carries PInwheels year round and Mallomars when they're in season there is no need to buy them again. I heartily reccomend that you spend your hard-earned money on Pinwheels rather than these, if you're a sugar-concious American who apprciates a good cookie.

One of the best cookies produced by Dare Co. of Canada. For all lovers of dark chocolate and marshmallow. Also made with jelly filling, but not as yet available through Amazon. Try them. You will not be disappointed.

Really bad condition, old looking, badly cracked and broken cookies, cookies dark chocolate covering were faded and dusty looking, complained and got my money back right away, so whole transaction was OK since I didn't have to pay for them. Threw them out in the dumpster and went 15 miles away to Gelson's grocery store which is the only one locally that carries my favorite cookie. Frankly I suspect these cookies don't travel well since the ones I used to buy from Vons (which has stopped selling them) were occassionally also lousy looking.

The entire case of these were damaged boxes-- the underside of the "plastic" trays were each DENTED so every cookie in all twelve boxes were smashed, broken, and therefore stale. HOWEVER, Amazon immediately refunded the purchase price when we complained. Their customer service is stellar. And I must admit that this was probably a rare occurrence for Dare cookies to be bad. They are usually wonderful.

Like many other reviewers, I grew up on Mallomars. I loved them. Last year my father bought a package of raspberry filled Whippets as a gift for me. What a revelation! Better chocolate, better marshmallow, better cracker. And the addition of that touch of raspberry took them over the top. Delicious and addicting.

I bought a box of Mallomars a couple of weeks ago as they are back on the store shelves with the cooler weather. They were an insult to my senses. The taste, scent and texture were rough and vulgar in comparison to the Whippets. Ugh! I tried a few more over the next several days and finally threw them out. I've been spoiled.

I don't know that I'd buy these cookies for delivery since they are temperature sensitive and delicately constructed, but if you can find these in a store don't hesitate. They are the best ever.
