5.0 out of 5 stars Daredevil Vol. 3 Hardcover Review, August 1, 2004

This review is from: Daredevil, Vol. 3 (Hardcover)
Well, I just picked this book up recently and I have to say, this book is just really, really good. This book collects another year's worth of Daredevil comics #38-50, and is the third in a series of great Marvel Daredevil hardcovers. This one picks right up where the last one left off (as you would expect) and is the best yet. This time around, you get to see a lot of what Daredevil does in his regular life as a reporter and as a ladies' man. As in Vol. 2, Matt Murdock spends more time out of his costume than in it, but that's OK, because what he is doing out of costume is still very interesting.

Murdock gets a new girlfriend, who is also blind, he tries to defend a costumed vigilante in the courtroom, he works to stop the Owl from rebuilding the Kingpin's empire and marketing a new drug, he gets some revenge on Bullseye (who really had it coming), and, finally, he has a truly epic confrontation with Wilson Fisk. I won't say more than that, as I don't want to give away too much. It's just a really, really good read, and I would love it if they would base a movie on this storyline.

Alex Maleev, again, provides the artwork in this collection, other than for a few courtroom issues, where a fill-in artist did the duties. Maleev's artwork is far better than the fill-in artist, and I'm coming to expect his stlye on this book. Maleev's artwork is growing on me. It's not at all what I'd want to see on JLA or X-Men or Hulk, but it fits Daredevil just fine. He is very meticulous in his own way, and I appreciate the work he puts into his signature style.

Did I mention that this is a really, really good book? Now go get it for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Part of the best Daredevil run...ever?, July 30, 2006

This review is from: Daredevil, Vol. 3 (Hardcover)
Brian Bendis has been hit or miss for me in the past; New Avengers? not my thing; Ultimate Spiderman? Really good when it doesn't suck. But Daredevil... If I'm nor mistaken, it was Bendis's first superhero work, but it doesn't feel like it. It also doesn't really feel like a superhero comic. The fights feel earned; there aren't just slugfests every issue to appeal to the masses. There's as much, if not more, attention paid to Matt Murdock as there is to Daredevil, and his job as a lawyer. The trial of the White Tiger is absolutely enthralling, without the appearance of any masked antics. Don't get me wrong; superheroes are great, but I think Bendis understands the entirety of what is implied by that term. Another reviewer of Volume four said that Bendis is better than frank Miller; I agree. Miller was the tree, but Bendis is the forest.
And on top of that, the artist, Maleev, is, in my opinion, the best in the superhero comic industry right now. It's just so gritty, and real. I'm not of the opinion that there are, or have been, many good artists in the comic book industry. I don't understand the hype of Jack Kirby, Jim Lee looks like the comic equivalent to Motley Crue (All glamour), but I think Maleev knows what he's doing, and he does it well.
Read this book, enjoy it. It's the best you'll find from Marvel.

4.0 out of 5 stars title for review...or something, April 9, 2010

Neat book, and found at a great price! Thanks! The cover was different than the one pictured, but is that really something to complain about, given the contents were the same?
A must-have for fans of ol' horn-head, easily one of the best runs on the series EVER.

Excellent addition to the Daredevil canon. Bendis and Maleev knock it out of the park again in one of the best runs on the title ever.
