5.0 out of 5 stars Daria is a refreshing delight, January 1, 2000

Unlike MTV's other hit cartoons, Daria depends more on sarcastic and amusing humour instead of fart jokes and stupidity. This tape includes the first three episodes of the first season of Daria. They are all excellent, from "Esteemsters" which shows Daria and Jane taking a self esteem class. The reaction from Daria's workaholic mom, Helen is a hoot, "We tell you over and over that you're wonderful and you just don't get it. What's WRONG with you!" The second episode deals with Daria and Jane invited to a party by popular but mentally empty Brittany, and the third, "College Bored," has Daria and her popular sister Quinn causing mayhem at a college. Daria is enlisted to do others homework for them. When her dumb father discovers this, he says, "And you made them pay in cash. Good girl." I love the razor sharp cynisism of Daria and Jane in a town populated by airheads.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to "Daria", July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Daria [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video (consisting of the first three episodes of the TV series) is an excellent introduction to the series, focusing on main character Daria Morgendorffer as she begins school in a new town ("Esteemsters"), tolerates a cheerleader's party ("The Invitation"), and endures a visit to her parents' alma mater ("College Bored"). Plus, the short, never-aired B&W animatic pilot ("Sealed With a Kick") gives us a behind-the-scenes glance at the development of the series. It's interesting to see the changes between the pilot and the series as it ultimately premiered.

However, there are a few small caveats with this video. One is that is that the original music used in the televised episodes has been replaced with more "generic" songs. It doesn't detract from the overall stories, but video purists should be warned. The other caveat is that the opening credits for all three episodes have been eliminated, and the closing credits are combined into one long crawl. Again, it doesn't remove anything from the story, but purists may ultimately find that the only attraction of the video is the animatic pilot. Caveat emptor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Lord, It's Me!!, October 21, 2000

All this time I thought I was the only one. I have a Jane Lane as a best friend. When we watch Daria together it's like watching ourselves. I love Daria and have been a fan quite some time. I'm waiting for "Is It Fall Yet?" to be available.

If you are a bit (or a lot) anti-social, hate stupid, shallow people, and are somewhat cynical, Daria will appeal to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have for Daria fans..., December 31, 2000

Whenever Daria is played on MTV latley I hardly ever see these four episodes. This tape includes "Esteemers" which is the first episode when Daria and the Morgandorffer family first move to Lawndale. I don't remember seeing this one it's been a long time if I have, but it is my faveorite episode now! "Esteemers" reminds me alot of the book "The Daria Diaries" which you gotta get too. The tape also includes "The Invitation" which I've seen a few times on MTV. It's when Daria and Jane are invited to Brittney's party because Daria helps Brittney with perspective in art class. "College Bored" is on MTV rarley I really thought it was going to be the episode when Daria and Jodie go to that college for the seminar thing but it isn't. It is actually about when the whole Morgandorffer family goes to the parents' old college for a visit because of a request from the girls' SAT prep class. Last is the pilot episode of Daria "Sealed with a Kick" which is in black and white. Daria had some morbid remarks, but she reminded me more of Quinn! (scary...)

5.0 out of 5 stars " I don't have low self-esteem. It's a mistake.. I have low self-esteem for everyone else..", December 11, 2005

Daria was one of the best shows that MTV had made. It was a satiric cartoon about a 17 year old girl who's sarcasm and wit was absolutely hilarious to all the fans of the show.

This video was basically an introduction to the world of Daria. It consists of 4 episodes (the last one being in black and white as it was not broadcasted ) "Esteemsters", "the Invitation" and "College Bored" shows the introduction of Daria and the rest of the cast.

Personally I think that the demise of Daria was a poor choice by MTV as it was a great show that was never really appreciated until it was gone. I absolutely love Daria and hopefully MTV will soon release a boxed set containing all the episodes that were released.

Daria is great, and very humorous. Does anyone else think her voice bares an uncanny resemblance to that of Janenne Garofalo?

4.0 out of 5 stars MTV's Daria video 1997, August 19, 1999

I highly recommend this Daria video. It was humorous and very well done. I have only been a fan for a month now, and since I don't have cable here I rushed to buy this video, and found it well worth the price. Definitely more realistic and has better scripts than the more recent episodes.
