5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping reading, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Daring to Win: Special Forces at War (Cassell Military Classics Series) (Paperback)
This work makes for gripping reading. Eshel prefaces it by saying that he is not writing a definitive history of ' special forces' but rather selecting out some of the most well- known stories of special forces' action, and retelling them. He then indicates that the 'special forces' are those who have extraordinary dedication, and persistence in achieving their tasks.
He writes of operations on land, sea and air, beginning with the First world war and closing with the Israeli commando raid on the Egyptian radar base on the Green Island .
He includes stories of a large variety of forces including those of the Germans, the Russians, the Americans, the British and the Israelis.
These actions are not necessarily brilliant and easy victories. In the account of the Mitla Pass battle he shows how risky, difficult, complicated, filled with glitches such operations can be.
His four sections are on 1)Great Commando Actions 2) Post-War Elite Actions 3)Raiders from the Sky 4) Warriors of the sea
The stories make for gripping reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daring to Win Special Forces at War, January 24, 2001
This review is from: Daring to Win: Special Forces at War (Cassell Military Classics Series) (Paperback)
I believe that this book is a complete CIA spook Operation, a good one at that. In the photograph section I recongize the soldiers in the dune buggy photo. This photo was at one time a highly classified photo. It's release is without permission of at least one member of that team. Therefore spook operation. As you can understand things soldiers do with dune buggy's generally are classified. It's release sets a new low in intelligence. Therefore also thats what makes me love this book, because I can figure the spooks out. Great book! And that soldier with the hat on is very cute. Isn't his name Bobby something or another? I wonder what "Cassall Books" would have to say about it's publishing rights? Maybe I'll ask them one day! All in all a great book, and that soldier in the hat I love him the most.
