4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut Album, August 19, 2004

This review is from: Dark Angel (Audio CD)
Lamia is an electronic band from Argentina and their debut album "Dark Angel" is simply smashing! It is quite obvious that 17th Century composer Bach and 19th Century composer Chopin has influenced Lamia.

I have never heard a band pay tribute to the masters of the classics such as Lamia does.Rolando's voice lends an ethereal feel as it blends with the compositions with in the CD and merges nicely with the synth skills of Celasco.

The CD itself provides a comforting atmosphere however there are some nice dance tracks.

I give this album a 4 and look forward to hearing more from Lamia in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent blend of industrial, EBM, and classical music, September 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Dark Angel (Audio CD)
I was perusing my favorite record store for dance music when I came across "Dark Angel" by Lamia. When I saw the track list, my curiousity was piqued. I was especially intrigued when I saw that there were a couple of baroque songs listed. And since Lamia is signed to Metropolis Records, home to some of my favorite goth/industrial/EBM bands, I especially was curious to hear Lamia's music. Needless to say, my curiousity paid off. "Dark Angel" is one of the best industrial/EBM albums I have heard this year (next to IoC's "Machines Are Us"). "Dark Angel" totally kicks off with a beautiful interpretation of "Prelude in Ci. Bwv 846" by Johann Sebastian Bach. Definitely not something you would not hear by your typical Metropolis Record's artist/band. I knew I was in for a real treat when I heard that song for the first time on "Dark Angel". After that, the synths and industrial beats kicks off the album with the gorgeous female operatic vocals provided by Claudia Rolando. I know that opera goes well with metal and techno music but I never imagined hearing opera and industrial music together. If there was one song on this album that really stands out in my head (which isn't easy to pick), it has to be track #4 "Dunkel Leben". I love listening to Claudia's vocals melding together with the harsh industrial beats provided by Juan Andres Celasco, Lucio Moschella, and Maximiliano Schneider. I also loved it when the music slows down for a more classical approach for songs like "Prelude #4 in E Minor" by Chopin. Metropolis Records really knows how to pick the artists and bands they sign. Lamia has a bright future in this genre of music. I look forward to hearing more from this wonderful Argentinian band.
