5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GREAT COP SHOW FROM JERRY BRUCKHEIMER!
Jerry Bruckheimer doesn't seem to run out of good ideas when it comes to cop shows...CSI trilogy, Cold Case, Without a Trace. And now comes Dark Blue, a special task force in the LAPD composed of specially-trained police officers whose job are to go undercover, infiltrate criminal organizations and bring them to justice. 2.0 out of 5 stars Ditto on the GREAT SHOW review ... problematic DVD
It just doesn't get any better than this for TV crime drama. I actually started watching this year (Season 2) with the addition of Tricia Helfer to the already very impressive cast. I loved the show so much I wanted to catch up on its origins with the purchase of Season 1 on DVD. Suffice to say, the content is great. However, the quality of this DVD box set is not so...

The team is composed of 4 police officers with unique personalities headed by Lt. Carter Shaw (Dylan McDermott), a grizzled, battle-scarred LAPD officer who is tasked with heading the task force and coming up with plans to bring down hardened criminals; Dean Bendis (Logan Marshall-Green), a no-nonsense guy who "absorbs" his role being an undercover cop and sometimes has a hard-time detaching himself from the roles his job demands; Ty Curtis (Omari Hardwick), the only married member of the team who tries to balance the demanding expectations from his job and his personal life and Jaimie Allen (Nicki Aycox) who was recruited by Lt. Carter to the team based on her past and struggles with demons of her own. The team put their lives on the line to infiltrate criminal organizations using deception, mundane and unconventional methods to get the job done. The plot is filled with a lot of action and drama that incorporates violence and human compassion at the same time. Its been a while since I have seen a cop show with this kind of story line. The members struggle with personal anxieties of their own but gets the job done at the end of the day. I Highly recommend this show for its unique plot and story line, deviating from the traditional cop shows we've seen in a very long time!

However, the quality of this DVD box set is not so perfect. Forget that it is not presented in 5.1 DD sound ... the sound is acceptable. And, generally speaking, the overall quality of video reproduction is very acceptable. The problem is with the DVD-R recordable media disc and the fact that it is not compatible with some DVD players ... resulting in occasional freezing of video and skipping issues. I have a Sony 9000 ES player and the only time I have had similar problems is when the "borrowed" disc was severely scratched. To be absolutely fair, perhaps I just received a bad copy. That being said, Disc #2 had so many errors, it was simply not watchable. It has been my experience, over the years, that the more expensive (and usually more precise) DVD players actually do make discs look their absolute best. However, the more precise and sensitive a player is ... occasionally it has tracking problems with damaged and/or sub-par quality discs, while a less accurate/sensitive player might play the same disc (although not with the same high quality video reproduction). In any case, if you purchase through Amazon and encounter any problems ... Amazon customer service is the best!

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The characters are interesting, and I never know quite where an episode will go. It's a great dark and gritty crime drama that focuses on getting to know and then manipulating criminals.

5.0 out of 5 stars ;0), February 11, 2011
This review is from: Dark Blue: Season 1 (DVD)
A great show and team, I was not sure what to expect when I started watching dark blue, The Shield it isn't but it can stand on it's own with the team going undercover with each mission. It's basically a special group of cops picked because of what they bring to the table they go undercover each episode to bring down the bad guys.

Great Show! Gritty and Dark> shows more on the darkside of crime. Pushes us to think how far would you go to get the bad guy. The cast is excellent and all have great parts to play as the number of actors in each show is small.

5.0 out of 5 stars This show is what an action-packed and suspense laden cop and bad guys show is supposed to be like., September 10, 2010

Dark Blue: The Complete First SeasonThis is what an action-packed and suspense-laden cop and bad guys show is supposed to be like. The bad guys are so evil that I actually got stressed up during each scene where it seemed that the undercover cop was about to be discovered. I actually got scared that the cop would be badly hurt. The scenes tightly follow each other to give you a feeling of non-stop rollercoaster action. Dylan McDermott used to show compassion in his previous attorney character in the Practice series. Here, he is all driven to put really bad guys out of business. He never gives his own cops any leeway for any compassion or personal issue to interfere with catching the bad guys. Sometimes the undercover cops get close to the people they are building cases against. They become torn as the arrests are about to be carried out. I watched the first season of Dark Blue as it was being shown on cable. I liked it so much that I bought it on DVD's. When the second season is available on DVD's, I'll buy it too.

Once again another a good show that did not get more than a season and a half. For Jerry Bruckheimer, only shows with CSI in the title seem to work. Next time, call it CSI Undercover.

Toke me awhile before I got into it. Got better as each episode. As a cop show I rank it up there with The Shield, and Hill st Blues

In your face, no nonsense, LA undercover cop drama. Thanks TNT for an awesome show, with an awesome cast. Dylan McDermott, at his best, with an unbelieveable supporting crew. Best drama show since HBO's The WIRE.
