Book Description

From the creators of the groundbreaking post-apocalyptic series Yesterday's Gone, and the vampire thriller Available Darkness, comes six unforgettable short stories, daring you to experience the darkness of their worlds.

Available as single stories or in the full collection, Dark Crossings is best enjoyed with the lights on.

PULL THE TRIGGER -- Ellie's husband owes money to some powerful people. The only way she can save his life is to do one "simple" job -- retrieve a mysterious box and kill the courier. But can Ellie pull the trigger? Nothing is at it seems in this pulse-pounding mysterious thriller.

CHRIS WAKES UP -- You know those zombie stories where survivors must make their way through a world plagued by walking dead? This is a tale from a zombie's perspective, as Chris wakes up infected, alone, and hungry. As he struggles to hold onto his humanity, he finds himself the unlikely protector of a young girl seeking safety. Can he protect her from others? Can he protect her from himself?

RESPERO DINNER -- In the not-too-distant future, Xavier is the guest of honor at an exclusive dinner. It's a night filled with friends, family, and regrets. Respero Dinner is a thought provoking tale of love, loss, and the choices we make in life.

THE VISITOR -- Blind and dying, writer Mary Fletcher is waiting out her final days in a nursing home. Unlike most of the other residents, Mary refuses to dwell on the past --until a mysterious visitor shows up. A visitor who sounds exactly like the love of her life who she believed to be dead. Who is he? What does he want?

DINER FADED -- Zach hops into his car and hits the open road, angry and eager to put a couple of states between he and his girlfriend. Zach pulls into a diner, hungry and with a gas tank on fumes. He gets more than he ordered and something he may never escape.

THE WATCHER -- Since the death of his young daughter, Frank Grimm's life has completely unravelled. Barely connected with his wife, he now sits in his home office, watching his neighbors live their lives. And when nobody's looking, he sometimes breaks into their homes. There's only one house on his street he hasn't broken into. And then one day he sees someone in the window of that house . . . watching him.

5.0 out of 5 stars short and sweet December 3, 2012

Another good book from the guys. Just what I needed while I am in the middle of regular length books. I like the Twilight Zone type of stuff and this satisfied my need. Going back for more.

"Dark Crossings" is a compilation of six short stories by authors Sean Platt and David Wright. This Kindle edition was a 327 Kb download and retails for $5.99. These works kind of mimic the old TV series "The Twilight Zone" where an strange tale concluded with an unusual ending. The works are available individually.

Background... I'd become interested in the writings of these two authors after reading their serial thriller, "Yesterday's Gone". An exciting urban sci-fi/fantasy adventure set in modern day America.

The works found in "Dark Crossings" include... general theme <SPOILER> alert

PULL THE TRIGGER -- Ellie gets involve in a caper involving two resort owners: owners with entirely too much time on their hands and more money than they'd ever know what to do with.

CHRIS WAKES UP -- a Zombie tale seen through the eyes of one of the newly infected.

RESPERO DINNER -- reminiscences with Xavier at his farewell dinner extravaganza.

THE VISITOR -- Blind and dying, writer Mary Fletcher has a visitor that offers her a new lease on life... well sort of.

DINER FADED -- an old dilapidated diner in the middle of nowhere gives Zach a glimpse of the past.

* of all the six stories here, 'Diner Faded' is the one that most fits in the mold of the old "Twilight Zone" shows.

THE WATCHER -- Since the brutal death of Jenny, Frank Grimm has lost more that just his young daughter.

Some thoughts...

Quick, easy reading... every tale, although fairly short, moves along at a nice pace. No dragged out dead spots in any of these short pieces.

All tales are well written and superbly focused on unusual and often macabre goings-on.

I am not usually a big fan of short stories, I am more of a "longer the better" sort of girl. However, I am a HUGE fan of these two authors, if you haven't tried any of their material you are missing out. Well written, sharp, entertaining fiction with a twist sums these guys up perfectly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stories. January 31, 2013

I was a twilight zone junkie so I thought these stories were great. They all had the good twist endings like an episode of twilight zone. I recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, tedious and pointless December 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was expecting a lot more from this collection giving all the glowing testimonials it received. Short stories shouldn't feel overlong and suprise endings shouldn't be telegraphed before the end. To compare these stories with The Twiglight Zone does Rod Serling a great disservice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and delightful November 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love short stories and these are great. Not many books stick in my head as long as short story plots--so they are a bargain in more ways than one. These are little twisted snapshots that keep you thinking long after you have read them. I'm thrilled the authors keep writing these collections! I'd say they are in the vein of Stephen King's short stories, but I like these even better--no offense to Mr. King.
