3.0 out of 5 stars not dismally bad, but approaching., July 28, 2000

This review is from: Dark Side of David Bowie (Audio CD)
I have to first say I respect the composition skill an playing of the musicians on this tribute album and their selection of material. Among the songs on this disc are some of my favorites of DB's more contemporary work. The overwhelming odor of death that permeates this disc overshadows the beauty of it. On tracks like the Motel the playing is pompous and overbearing as an insufficiently talented guitar player attempts to usurp the song's strength with the raw uncontrolled flutter of an overeffected accoustic guitar. Only buy this disc if you feel so compelled that you have no option.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange Mixture of Goth and Bowie-but it works., December 12, 2009

Those listening to this album expecting pristine, or at least "normal" rock and roll covers will be disappointed. These songs have been rearranged in the goth style, and if you don't like dark, melancholy music, you will not like this album.

That being said, for fans of the genre this is a great collection. Some attempts work well, others not so much. But exploring this material from the concepts of a different genre is what this album is all about.

Although it is dark, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
