I've been a fan of Evergrey for a few years now, and I decided to back track and see what this band sounded like in the early days. "The Dark Discovery" is really good for the band's first release, showing just as much emotion if not more then their newest studio release, "The Inner Circle". Tom Englund is currenlty the only original member of his band, they've changed quite a lot over the years and have earned themselves's a reputation as a leading progressive metal band.

I can't believe that this is not only a debut album, but one that seems to be under appreciated. Evergrey these days are playing a lot simpler in terms of style, (& still heavy!) but with this debut album I can see where their musical greatness started & continued to this day. This album encompasses not only the progressive sounds we all know the band for, but it has that raw sound that Evergrey is churning out these days; and it is MUCH HEAVIER compared to their later efforts. This is one of Evergrey's best albums next to 'Solitude-Dominance-Tragedy.' (I still have yet to hear 'In Search of Truth,' but that album sounds like it's killer too from the sound samples I've heard.)Regardless this album is blastworthy, especially when going for a nice drive at night!

If this is the first album you pick to listen to Evergrey, well you will fall inlove with it, but after you realise what great musicians they are having progressed better and better after every last album, you might say this is not the "greatest" record for them, but surely one that can be used as a first record or origin of a starting band.
